Mary Badger Jessup sends her greetings from beautiful Maine. Her house overlooks a salt pond and is surrounded by trees and many birds. Her 23-year-old granddaughter, a fifth-year pharmacy student, is in town working for two semesters. She and Badge sing in a chorale and choir together. Badge enjoys kitties Parker and Smokey.
Peggy Fiero Stone had a hip replacement last October but is now playing golf and doing water aerobics every week. She says that it does seem as if she and husband Chip take turns going to doctors every week. But other than that, “everything is fine!”
Marie Louise Flinker Putney and husband Blake took two quick trips to Palo Alto, CA, in the spring. In March they saw granddaughter Jennifer play the role of Sally Bowles in a high-school production of Cabaret; in June, they returned for her graduation. She plans to major in theater at Chapman University.
Genevieve Gerard Conroy and husband Dick have been renters in a high-rise since last November. She says it has turned out to be “a blessing” because of health problems that began last year, including spinal stenosis and a ruptured disc, both requiring surgery. She is currently undergoing chemotherapy for ovarian cancer; she feels fortunate that there have been no adverse effects and the disease was caught early. Dick is retiring this month after 55 years of medical practice.
Harriet Hebden Avery and husband Baldy, along with three daughters and three grandchildren, participated in a reunion of 110 members of the Avery family. The extended clan met at Wells College in Aurora, NY, where Hebbie learned that she is “too old” to sleep well on a dormitory cot (“Osteoporosis is tough!”). Hebbie says, “Thanks to all who supported the alumni fund; over 69 percent participation is terrific!”
Sarah Longley Kinney and husband Herb celebrated their 60th anniversary in July and are enjoying life in Coos Bay on the Oregon coast, near their daughter’s family.
We send condolences to Nancy MacGilpin Garrison, who lost husband George to cancer in June. “We shared 56 years together, and I miss him, but family and friends give me much support. George always enjoyed our Skidmore reunions.” Nancy’s family was all together over Easter. Her ten grandchildren laughed over childhood memories of their parents. Nancy enjoys living in her senior community.
Janet Morse Westcott enjoys family, friends, and duplicate bridge. She spent the winter in Citrus Hills, FL, and is currently in Saratoga Springs, within walking distance of Skidmore.
Jane Pearce Lowe reports she was “lazy this summer, no gallivanting.”
Marj Wendel Keenoy spent a week in June visiting children in Massachusetts and returned for another week in September visiting other members of the clan. She is busy knitting for two more great-grandchildren expected before the end of the year, making a total of six.
Ginny Gray McNear’s youngest son graduated Phi Kappa Phi and magna cum laude from an accelerated nursing program at the Minnesota State University at Mankato. He passed state boards in January and has moved to Oklahoma. Ginny’s two oldest granddaughters are working on master’s degrees. The youngest grandchild is a college freshman in Tucson. Ginny stays busy doing volunteer work and spending time with friends.
