Jo Leach Lewis and Dotty Wakeman Mattoon traveled together to Japan, China, and Thailand last fall. They were royally entertained in Japan by the parents of Dotty’s daughter-in-law. They enjoyed a wonderful cruise on the Yangtze River in China, followed by a relaxing sojourn in Bangkok. In February, during a cruise from San Diego, CA, to Mexico, Jo discovered that her cabinmate was Nicole Desy Kenny ’78. In May, Dotty and Jo met at Puerta Vallarta and enjoyed spa treatment, gourmet dining, and swimming.

Ann Chamberlin Birnie and James took a break from the Canadian winter and spent the month of February in Naples, FL.

Alice Vassallo Scott, who visited Naples for a week, had dinner with the Birnies and Lee and Nancy Wyman Horner. Still working full-time, Alice took a vacation in July to visit daughter Pam and grandchildren in Ireland for three weeks.

Ann Talbot Brown and Bill enjoy seeing classmates while vacationing on Cape Cod. They also have a large group of high-school friends from Millburn, NJ, nearby, and they now hold yearly reunions on the Cape. Bill, a World War II history buff, took a fascinating “Stephen Ambrose” trip to Iwo Jima, Guam, and Saipan in March.

Jean Bryan Boylan and Jay are doing a lot of traveling. This spring they spent three months at their daughter’s home in Houston, TX, to celebrate the birth of their 11th grandchild. While traveling back and forth from their New Jersey home, they often work in interesting side trips, visiting their daughter in Baltimore along the way. They spent June on Martha’s Vineyard, Cape Cod, and Nantucket.

Linda Gorham Harvey sent the sad news that her mother passed away in June at the age of 100. She had been in good shape and living alone up to the end.

In June a dedication service was held for the Alumni Memorial Garden at Skidmore. Florence Andresen, Betty Hartz Hewitt, Barbara Mansfield Saul, and Marg O’Meara Storrs have been working on the project since our last reunion and were thrilled to be present for the ceremony. The garden has four quadrangles, each enclosed by cobblestones engraved with several decades of classes. A charming statue of Bhumi Devi, the earth goddess, sculpted by Barbara Stroock Kaufman ’40, stands at the center of the circular garden. Each quad features a dogwood tree, azaleas, rhododendrons, irises, yellow daylilies, and a bench. The bench in our quad was given in memory of Karen Thorsell Sause by her sons. The entire area is lit up each evening for four hours. How nice to think our four classmates have been responsible for developing this special section of the campus. Florence is especially pleased with all the involvement of alums.

Barbara Saul and Ed have exciting news to share—they bought a new home in Whispering Pines, NC, not far from Janel McKay Carlson. The Sauls are delighted to leave New York snow behind.

In June a group of us helped spouses and friends celebrate the 50th reunion of Dartmouth’s Class of ’55. Jane Tiemer Croft was there, having just returned from visiting her son, who was hospitalized in Germany. Marg O’Meara Storrs and Sally Huberlie Hale (whose husband, Jud, spoke at the Saturday night dinner) were also in attendance. My husband, Bob, felt nostalgic about our college days and his many runs to Skidmore, and so we drove home through Saratoga. The college looks prettier than ever, and the memorial garden is charming.
