Karen Kern is an assistant professor of history at Hunter College; she specializes in Middle Eastern history, law, and women’s status. The recipient of a doctorate from Columbia University, she travels frequently to the Middle East to do research. She welcomes hearing from alumni in Middle Eastern studies at any level; e-mail her at kkern@hunter.cuny.edu.

Mike Bucar is “semi-retired”; he teaches tennis in West Palm Beach in the winter and in Keene Valley, NY, in the summer. He sees Emily Belt from time to time and also chats with the sister of Sam Bayne ’86; she’s a member of the Keene Valley club where he is an instructor. Mike wonders whether Sam is dodging a tennis match with him.

James Mandle’s son Brian turned 2 this summer. James recently started working as a lighting designer with Eric Johnson Associates in California.

Kirsten Hube Sweeney lives in Old Greenwich, CT, with her husband and their two daughters, ages 12 and 10. The Sweeneys manufacture fresh tomato sauces, a business they started two years ago.

Meg Tally Hunt relocated to Seattle from the NYC area eight years ago. Until the birth of her second child, Liam, in February 2004, she was VP of marketing operations at AT&T Wireless. Meg is taking time off from the corporate world, renovating a beach house on Whidbey Island, volunteering at daughter Emma’s school, and entertaining the 1-year-old.
