Riding in style is part of the Saratoga summer scene, and Skidmore made the most of it, to benefit two key scholarship funds.
In June the Skidmore Saratoga Classic Horse Show raised more than $260,000. The two-
week event offered nearly 200 classes for everyone from high-stakes jumpers and national-championship hunter riders down to small children on ponies; eighteen competitors were Skidmore alumni from near and far. More than seventy sponsors helped make the event its usual big success.
August means polo by twilight, but this year’s Palamountain Scholarship gala also featured
five rare Bugatti autos. Owned by renowned collectors Peter and Susan
Kettering Williamson ’59,
the vintage luxury speedsters were on loan at Saratoga’s new auto museum, so it was just a
short drive (all under their own power) to visit the polo field. Other entertainments included a
gourmet dinner and live auction; approximately $250,000 was raised to boost the endowed scholarship fund.
