Betsy Bell Condron took a barge trip out of Bordeaux through the French wine country. She also reports having nice visits with Skidmore gals here and there.
Joan Fredericks Whetstone took a cruise around Cape Horn, departing from Santiago, Chile, aboard a Norwegian cruiser, and sailed down the Chilean coast, viewing the fjords and glaciers. They later stopped at the Falklands, Uruguay, and Buenos Aires. She discovered that Mary Lou Woodruff Street was also onboard. Mary Lou especially enjoyed strolling among the penguins.
She and Bud tried to learn the tango in Buenos Aires. They spent the spring in Amelia Island, FL, playing golf.
Mary Lou Street later shared laughs with Elaine Votaw Bell, as they recalled their postgraduate
trip to Europe, at Elaine’s Pennsylvania mountain home.
Pat Thayer Whitney’s daughter informed me that Pat has moved into assisted living in Chapel Hill, NC. Pat welcomed her eighth grand-child and eighth great-grandchild this year.
Audrey Platt Jacobson enjoyed a six-week trip to Italy and England. She misses son John, who moved to Pennsylvania.
Signe Sletteland Behring and Herb got together with Georganne Hinchliff Eggers in Tubac, TX, and had a great time.
Joan Paxton Jameson’s son, Lt. Col. Thomas Jameson, left Kabul, Afghanistan, to return to
NATO headquarters before flying to the US in July. He earned 19 ribbons while serving in Iraq.
Bill Shaw, Marion Wambold Shaw’s husband, wrote an inspiring article about her and his regret over not writing her love letters. It was published in the April 17 Newsweek.
The last of Martha Dunkel Chilcott’s long line of Airedales died in April. Dunk, who lives in Tucson, AZ, now rescues Irish terriers—keeping two so far: Terra Cott and Ladd.
Ruth Gold West is in assisted living in Paoli, PA. Twin sister Mary died from congestive heart failure this year. Ruth spent the summer in Cape May, NJ, with an old friend.
Carolyn Cain Willen lost her husband to leukemia in May. We are sorry for her loss. He had endured three heart bypasses and a valve replacement. Carolyn enjoyed a get-together with Betsy Bell Condron, Mary Mitchel Durland, and Betti Detrick Williams.
I went to my grandson’s skateboard wedding (different!) in Boulder, CO, before spending a week with daughter Dawn and her family in Boulder and Colorado Springs. I spent the summer at the beach and attended the Holtermann family reunion in July—hadn’t seen some of the family in 25 years. I also took granddaughter Katie to the American Girl Store for her eighth birthday. It was eye-opening.
