A fabulous time was had by all who made it back to campus for our 35th reunion. We have to acknowledge the super job done by reunion co-chairs Cathy Offinger and Terry McKee von der Heydt and their diligent committees. Also, special kudos to fund chair Joan Carey and Friends of the Presidents chair Susan Hayward Donahue and their committees for their efforts to break our class reunion fundraising record. Thanks to all who contributed and helped set the benchmark higher for the future.
At the alumni association’s recognition ceremony, we cheered loud and long as Linda Jackson-Chalmers became the first classmate to receive an Outstanding Service Award for her work on behalf of the college. Assistant superintendent of schools for human resources and community relations for the Albany (NY) Public Schools, Linda has served as college trustee and member of many key committees. She brought her own cheering section of family members, including her “supportive husband, Happy Pappy, and wonderful mother.”
A number of class members had their artwork selected for inclusion in the alumni art exhibit, including Nina Conolly Stimson (a watercolor), Chris Tucker Haggerty (acrylic painting), Sara Hotchkiss (hand-woven piece), Kathie Chwals Milligan (oil painting), and Zoë Vose Morsette (mixed media).
Incoming president Anne “Jets” Blodget Holberton, who works in corporate risk and employee benefits, is looking forward to keeping classmates involved with each other and with Skidmore. Jets helped to organize the New England pre-reunion gathering and would like to do more such events.
Betsy Blades Skinner will serve as our 40th reunion chair for 2013. She is going to need plenty of people to work with her, and it’s not too early to start planning for the future.
Rhonda Silberberg Canter brought her husband and law partner, Jonathan, to Reunion. They are both involved in real estate—commercial, residential, and development. Rhonda does a great deal of commercial leasing. She and Jon have visited Saratoga every summer over the past 32 years. Daughter Alexis is a graduate student in landscape architecture at Harvard. Son Zachary went to Colgate for a year, then transferred to Wesleyan University, and is now a trader in NYC for First New York Securities.
Doug Gray, who wasn’t able to attend, has “returned to the sea” as VP of entertainment for Norwegian Cruise Lines. After 15 years as a consultant and producer in the theater world, Doug produces and supervises entertainment, activities, and staff, and lectures for Norwegian’s fleet of 14 ships.
Linda Kulik Fraser and husband Arthur (Union ’72) have two daughters at Columbia University. Priscilla, who was married this winter to Marcello Cipriano in NYC, is in her second year at the Graduate School of Architecture. Elizabeth is a senior at Barnard. Arthur continues to practice architecture in NYC. Due to family travels, Linda was not able to join us for Reunion.
Software business analyst Terrie O’Donnell and husband Bob have three children. Maddie is a senior at Boston College, Meg is a senior at Loyola College, and Patrick is a sophomore at Boston College. Having three in college at the same time means they are “much poorer and a long way off from retirement.”
Carolee Solof is a pediatric dentist and orthodontist in her home town of Great Neck, NY.
Martha Howell Wilson is a retired dentist living in Austin, TX. Her husband died in 2003. For the past five years, Martha has been walking along the Camino De Santiago; so far, she has made it two-thirds of the way across Spain. Son Rud, 25, graduated from college and has been working for a small company, selling medical equipment that tests hearing in newborns. He is also head coach for the St. Edward’s University lacrosse team.
Anne Pouch, Nina Nightingale Braziel, Mira Fish Coleman, Marguerite Woodworth Seefeld, and Anne Alger Hayward enjoyed a pre-Reunion get-together in Saratoga at the end of May. It was Nina’s first visit back to campus since our graduation.
Penny Knight is still teaching choral music at Brockton High School. Son Jake graduated from Stanford University in 2006 and is working for Sunpower in San Francisco; daughter Madi graduated from the University of Michigan.
Susan DeLaney Morgan’s eldest son, Nate Morgan ’10, loves Skidmore!
Deborah Nadler Broomfield is sorry she didn’t make it to Reunion. She still practices family law in NYC. Husband Michael coauthored a recently published annotated bibliography of author John Updike. Daughter Caroline, 14, is a 10th-grader at the Fieldston School. And two very special nieces graduated from Wesleyan and Swarthmore in 2006.
Donna Eck McQueen received an MBA from DeSales University in May.
Marcia Davenport Eck was married last summer to a wonderful man she’d gotten to know while working as a home-care nurse four years ago. Her 24-year-old son walked her down the aisle in their local church and had a garden reception. Among the guests was Eloise Trissler Armstrong. Marcia is a hospice nurse in Petaluma, CA, a rewarding position.
Carol Delancey Lichmira is director of special events for the Wissahickson Valley Watershed Association in Ambler, PA. Son Sam will be a sophomore at Lehigh, majoring in engineering.
