Another sun-soaked golf and tennis tournament was hosted by the Friends of Skidmore Athletics in June. The event brought out more than 150 alumni, family members, friends, and sponsors —spanning the ages from Betty Hartz Hewitt ’57 to Seth Waldenberg ’08—who all teamed up to raise over $40,000 to improve athletics at Skidmore.
Attendees heard news of this year’s Skidmore Hall of Fame honorees from FOSA chair Steven Cornell ’81 and toasted Pat Oles as the tournament’s MVP, for his help with FOSA efforts when he was dean of student affairs.
Jason Ricker ’91 says the event was “a first-class operation,” and Betty Hewitt calls it “a class act with lots of humor and efficient planning.” She adds that the organizers and players “were very welcoming to the oldest one in the field and a great pleasure to meet and socialize with.” For Ricker—who says, as a former hockey and baseball player, “supporting the future growth of athletics is real important to me”—the event was also about seeing old friends. “Great golf, great food, and great people!”—SR
