More than 40 classmates have joined the Skidmore Class of ’82 Facebook site. Vicki Salvo Bruce created the group, a wonderful place to post photos and messages and to stay in touch as often as we wish to. So if you haven’t already joined Facebook, do so and then link to our class site. You’ll be in good company!
David Schaffer and wife Nancy Wagner Schaffer ’83 visited Jack Bell at Hollywood Studios (formerly MGM Studios) in Walt Disney World during a family vacation celebrating older daughter Helena’s eighth birthday in December 2008. Lily Jane, 6, is now asking for a Disney birthday celebration as well. Jack has worked in the casting (human resources) department at Walt Disney World for over 26 years.
Kay Olsen has been in the spirits and wines business since graduation. She spent 16 years with Heublein/Diageo, working for brands like Smirnoff Vodka, Jose Cuervo Tequila, Almaden Vineyards, and Black Velvet Canadian. She then started her own company, the Spirit of Hartford (www.kayolsen.com), and has been helping to bring new brands to the US, including Xellent Swiss Vodka.
Liz Russell Hochberger recently got her real estate license and works at Century 21 in Weston Town Center, MA. Since husband Fred works at North Coast Seafoods in Boston buying and selling fish, she remarks, “I guess that makes me a fishmonger’s wife!” Their oldest daughter, Marjie ’12, is a Skidmore sophomore and absolutely loves it. “I guess when I got all that financial aid back in 1980 and then promised to give my first born; they took me up on it!” quips Liz. They have two more daughters in high school, and a son in middle school; all are great scholars and athletes. Liz took the kids back to Hawaii in June to see her mom and high school friends; it was her first trip there in 10 years. As fans of the television show Lost, they enjoyed exploring the places where scenes were shot.
Elizabeth Bozer Augustus is in Jacksonville, FL, with her husband of 22 years, Joe. They will be empty-nesters next year, as younger daughter Kate heads off to college in North Carolina. Older daughter Caroline ’11 is studying music and Italian and singing in the co-ed a cappella group the Dynamics. Bitsi and Laurel Robinson White, a freelance producer and director in Los Angeles, are in touch almost daily. Bitsi has enjoyed catching up with others via Facebook, and notes that it will make our next reunion that much more fun!
Cynthia Dawson Hoff reports that the family is alive and well in Mountain Lakes, NJ. Daughter Alexandra graduated from Williams in June and then moved to the Washington, DC, area for a job in the psychology lab at University of Maryland. Son JJ loves everything about Duke University, and will spend a semester in Paris. Daughter Victoria is shopping for colleges, but only in warm climates—so Skidmore is out, Cynthia says. And son Greg is adjusting to being a high school freshman, where he actually has to do the work! Husband John is still employed in the precarious Wall Street environment, and Cynthia continues to be overcommitted (or “committee-ed”) in the community, but wants to start working for monetary compensation. She hopes to see Lisa Tesar Capretta when she comes to see her son play lacrosse at Princeton, and she looks forward to our reunion in 2012.
