Florida residents Faith Hope Barnard and husband David summered in Chicago, IL, thus missing the hurricaneswhich fortunately did not damage their home or rental property. They enjoyed spending time with their grandchildren over Thanksgiving and Christmas.
Peg Wenzelberger Robeson and her home survived the hurricanes, though other residents of Cape Coral, FL, were left without roofs. She and husband Harold have been traveling while they can. A recent excursion was a barge trip from Dijon, France, which featured local wine and cheese and a French chef who prepared wonderful food.
Ronnie Gregg Kimball appreciates having the entire extended family nearby: six kids and a few spouses, 15 grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren. Ronnie, her brother, and her oldest son enjoyed a trip to Hawaiis Big Island and spent a few days in Honolulu. Ronnie spoke with June Hiller Carrs husband, Dick, and reports that he is doing well.
Jinnie Copithorne Pollin and husband Jack attended his 60th reunion at West Point and then celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary. She recalled what a special day June 6, 1944, was for them: D-Day, graduation, and wedding. After the reunion they hustled down to Washington, DC, to take part in the dedication of the new WWII Memorial. The couple enjoyed a Mediterranean cruise last year.
Joann McCarthy Stoneman had a massive heart attack last Valentines Day while attending a conference on womens heart problems. She was hospitalized for three months but is recovering nicely.
Katy Horrie Salwitz enjoyed lunch with Jan Peters Gardiner and husband Dick at the Getty Center in Los Angeles, CA, while visiting son John and his family. Katy and her husband, Dick, attempted a Mississippi paddleboat cruise, but the boat broke down.
Jersey Shore residents Dorothy Batzanian Otchy and husband Arthur had visits from all 11 grandchildren last summer. Dee and Arthur report a few aches and pains, but overall they are in good health.
Janice Chiquoine Beacham moved to a smaller house next door to the one she shared with husband Frank, who died suddenly from a heart attack last year. Happy is surrounded by family and friends and spent Thanksgiving with all three of her children in Dallas, TX.
Henrietta Wentholt VanZoelen is recovering from a broken hip and happy to be able to remain in her own home with the help of caregivers. Hank eagerly looks forward to reading classmates news in Scope and would enjoy hearing from old friends.
At the Asian Art Museum of San Francisco, Joan Simon Barr has been a docent for over 20 years and an architectural guide for two; she is presently editor-in-chief of Voices, the museums volunteer newsletter, which is sent to over 750 docents, guides, and storytellers.
Nancy Starrett Bolmer and husband Maury winter in Traverse City, MI, where they moved 10 years ago. It is a charming little city, with a wonderful hospital, a community college, theater, art, and athletics all within easy access, reports Nonny. They summer at their cottage on Lake Leelanau (about 30 miles away), where they are joined by their children and four grandchildren. Nonny keeps in touch with Happy Chiquoine Beacham of Palm Desert, CA, and Betty Beaton Given of Moorestown, NJ.
I have found that living in a condo is much easier than taking care of a house. I am serving on the boards of the Philadelphia chapter of the Victorian Society in America, the Cheltenham Township Adult School, and the Temple Judea Jewish Museum. I enjoyed a week in Cape May, NJ, with family and a week on Swan Island, ME, with friends last summer.
