Caroline Bruner Dean keeps busy with 10 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren scattered between Ohio and Texas. She summers in Ontario, Canada.

Marge Fee Neff is recovering from a broken wrist she suffered after falling backward down five stairs; the injury required six pins and two settings. She reports that Bobby Lee Gardner is afflicted with pulmonary fibrosis, a rare disease that requires her to be on oxygen continuously. Marge’s grandson was married in November, bringing the family together for a nice reunion. Granddaughter Kathleen (daughter of Debbie Neff Lynch ’77) was accepted at Appalachian State University in Boone, NC.

Carol Thomas Morgan has been living in the Neffs’ Fayetteville, NC, apartment while Carol’s husband, Bob, undergoes rehabilitation therapy for a leg injury.

Fellow North Carolina resident Carol Moxley Scherr is battling cancer, as is Mary Bailey Schulze’s husband, Lou.

Joan Paxton Jameson and her family have had their share of medical challenges recently. Joan is recovering from surgery to remove a tumor in her left lung. A grandson who also lives in North Carolina is back on his feet following a clavicle injury. Daughter Laura is recuperating from two operations in Dayton, OH. On a lighter note, granddaughter Alexandra is enrolled at the University of Cincinnati School of Art and Architecture in Ohio. Joan’s son Tom is an engineering staff officer assigned to the Allied Command Europe Rapid Reaction Corps near Dusseldorf, Germany. Daughter Susan and husband Greg live in West Lake Village, CA.

Phyllis Harder Reininger enjoyed a mini-reunion with former roommate Pat McLeod Leeming in Indiana. Phyllis and husband Dick are training a new dog to be an aid for the handicapped (their previous dog flunked his service test). The Washington State residents were “a little on edge” when Mount St. Helens started to have small eruptions last year. They enjoyed a visit to the Oregon Blue Mountains with son Chuck, his wife, and their children. Chuck owns a new winery that produced 10,000 cases of wine last year.

Ruth Gold West moved into a one-bedroom apartment in Newtown Square, PA, just 15 minutes from her former residence. Home repair was getting to be too much for her. She is glad to have many friends nearby.

Bette Detrick Williams paints about 10 hours a week and maintains her gallery in Rockland, ME, with the help of daughter Laura. Bette is currently illustrating two children’s books and taking a university art course. She served as art instructor to her grandchildren last summer.

Joan Fredericks Whetstone missed Reunion last June because she was packing up and moving from her Bethesda, MD, home to a new residence in Bonita Springs, FL. Last July she and husband Stanley drove to Park City, UT, to spend two months with daughter Kirsten, her husband, and their son. They returned home to discover that the damage from Hurricane Charley was limited to a few trees. Joan recently joined a local choir.

Nancy Hare Dunn was also sorry to have missed Reunion. She stays busy following her grandchildren’s tennis, football, baseball, and basketball games.

Hurricane Charley claimed Pat Hickey Powell’s roof; a subsequent hurricane destroyed a boathouse roof. “Fortunately, I didn’t have another stroke,” she quips. She spent Thanksgiving in Philadelphia, PA, with daughter Hilda, a professor at Westchester University. Joan celebrated Christmas with son Neil and his wife in Nashville, TN.

Mary Lou Woodruff Street’s son David is traveling to Italy, daughter Cindy is busy managing personnel in a local law firm, and son Stephen is in construction in Concord, NH. Mary Lou’s new e-mail address is mlnbud@comcast.net.

Joan Hull and husband Dale remodeled a rental property they own in Marin County, CA, and then moved in. Joan took an 18-day cruise from San Francisco to NYC by way of the Panama Canal. The couple plays golf whenever possible. Joan complains of having TMFS (Technical Manual Fatigue Syndrome) from trying to operate her many new electronic gadgets.

Ferne Hessberg Weiner gave up her Hawaiian home and moved to La Jolla, CA.

I spent 18 days visiting daughter Penny and participating in two Elderhostels in Ventura, CA, in January. I stay busy with church activities, the local Skidmore club, and a women’s club.
