Jill Shelling Remy loves her spacious new two-bedroom, two-bath apartment on the fifteenth floor of a condo complex in Haikou, China. It features a swimming pool, tennis courts, and a wrap-around view of condo gardens and the city. Her rent, including all utilities and Internet service, comes to $350 per month. “Now you know why I live in China,” she quips. Jill teaches English to students at a private school, engineers at a large automobile manufacturing plant, and employees at several five-star hotels in the area. She spent a month this winter touring New Zealand.

In September the NYC Skidmore club hosted a reception for parents of new students. Pat Kennedy Snyderman was instrumental in setting up the event (held at the National Arts Club), and Mike Sposili from Alumni Affairs addressed the gathering. While there, Pat met Tsipi Ben-Haim, executive director of the Manhattan nonprofit CityArts Inc. and mother of Yori Ben-Haim ’08. Tsipi is interested in involving Skidmore art students in a global Web-design competition that will open at the United Nations in November. She is married to noted sculptor Amnon Z. Ben-Haim, who has exhibited throughout the world.
