Anne Mintener Heegaard was in China for three and a half weeks touring several cities and museums. She predicts that China will surpass the US economically within 10 years. Anne and husband Peter especially loved the Yellow Mountain area. Anne returned home to discover that all the Minnesota gals who went to Skidmore together were in town to celebrate their 50th high-school reunion: Sandy Luce Traff, Barbara Cashin Rogers, Flossie Potter Mann, and Mary Bull Madsen. Mary stayed at the Heegaards’ before returning to Woodbury, CT. Flo, who has recently undergone a seventh cancer surgery, inspired everyone with her fantastic positive outlook. The Heegaards also hosted Anne Davis Carrier and Tom for dinner before the Carriers left for Arizona this winter. The Heegaards have eight grandchildren. Oldest daughter Susan ’83 is commissioner of higher education for the State of Minnesota.

Gail Dodge Meade and husband Ronald live in Canterbury, NH, where Gail works part-time with seniors and serves as “Queen Mother” of the local Red Hat Society. She and her chapter reach out to residents of nursing homes and assisted-living facilities, an effort Gail finds rewarding.

I received a picture of Sid Wright Coursen with Barbara Osborne Vulkoff and Priscilla Knowlton Tavenner, taken at the Spring Street Inn in Newport, RI, where they spent three days last year, husbands in tow, touring mansions and sharing laughs. The trio met at Skidmore during sophomore year at the Spring Street dorm. Sid sees Mary Avery Gessner on Cape Cod and is enjoying Skidmore club events there.

Mary Avery Gessner sent an article about Elsa Daspin Suisman that appeared in the Hartford Courant. Elsa helped bring Jewtopia to the stage at the Westside Theater in October. Those who saw the play thoroughly enjoyed it. Mary and husband Russ spent January through March in California and made a trip to Florida to attend the Palm Coast Elderhostel golf school.

Although Corry Partin left Skidmore before graduating to marry, she has many great memories of her college days. She has authored an inspirational book of poetry for children, Charlotte’s Garden, which is slated for publication this spring. The poems are accompanied by pressed-flower illustrations created by two California artists. For more information, contact Corry at JPartin@sc.rr.com.

In September Lenore Blitz Lerner retired from her position as associate professor in the reading and study skills department at SUNY-Westchester.

Barbara Drucker Smith writes that her book A Poetic Journey has been nominated for the 2004 literary award for poetry given by the Library of Virginia.
