In December Janet Glass Bowen and husband Bruce moved to a new house built on property purchased for their retirement in New Hampshire. Janet happily participated in the building plans. Bruce still commutes to work in Boston and returns on weekends. They are located close to the Waterville Valley and Loon Mountain ski areas and invite skiers to give them a call.
Julia Mandle Kiechel completed an MFA in sculpture and cloth at Bowling Green University last May and was part of a group show at AIR Gallery in Chelsea. Julie is seeking public venues big enough to accommodate her large-scale textile and metal artwork. She and husband Steve traveled to Bhutan with a small group from Williams College to continue learning about remote cultures. During their annual visit to the San Juan Islands over Labor Day weekend, Julie exchanged hugs on a dock with Janet Reder Hersey. The two good friends vowed to reunite in Anacortes this summer. Julie is impressed with Skidmores curriculum and commitment to dynamically integrate departments. She feels Skidmore encourages a broad and deep understanding of our world and says, graduates of our era seek change and make things happen!
Nancy Nims Mullins still works part-time in insurance claims for an orthopedic surgery group. Husband Mac delivers babies and helps train obstetrics residents. Son Andy graduates from law school at Regent University in May. The Mullinses traveled to Boulder, CO, to spend a white Christmas with their niece and family.
Earline Furber Rubel plans to retire from the Harwich Port, MA, school district this year. She and husband Ed are busy with work and following the professions of sons Tim, an actor and director for a theater company in Providence, RI, and James, who sells real estate on Cape Cod.
Miriam Novick Sweet retired in 2001 from the construction and interior design company she and her husband owned. They live on Floridas Longboat Key and enjoy frequent visits from their kids and grandkids. Mimi plays tennis with a 57 grad and wants to connect with other Skidmore graduates in the Sarasota area.
Jill Sneve Patch sent holiday photographs of her family. Jill is gently easing into retirement, working part-time in medical research with her longtime employer, La Jolla Institute for Molecular Medicine in San Diego, CA. She has also become an avid moviegoer, reads, and produces a newsletter for her AAUW branch. She enjoyed traveling with a friend to Paris and London last summer. She and husband Dan are proud of children Susan, 23, who attends an intensive college program in exotic animal training and management; and son Steve, 20, who is stationed with the coast guard in Kodiak, AK.

Carla Babcock Sharp is still active in the horse businessriding, training, teaching, and showing. Tennis and skiing take up the rest of her time. Daughter Heather Sharp Lambo 93, who teaches third grade in Weston, MA, has a daughter, Taylor, born last April. Son Chris is in computer networking and races mountain bikes and snowmobiles.
In Massachusetts Margo Sweet thoroughly enjoys her work in the development office at Brandeis University. Shed love to hear from other classmates at margo.sweet@hatvany.net.
Susan Gottlieb Beckerman writes that Chris Wilsey Goodwin has been a full partner in organizing the recent string of New Yorkarea 67 mini-reunions. Its challenging to find meeting times for all who wish to participate, but they find each gathering to be more than worthwhile, regardless of how many attend. Susan and Chris are also organizing a one-time book discussion of The Kite Runner by Khaled Hosseini. If you are interested, contact Susan at SB1118@aol.com.
It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Chris Kaufmann in November. She had lived with breast cancer for 10 years, and those who attended our 35th reunion will recall her optimism and courage. Susan Gottlieb Beckerman writes, Everyone who came to the last 67 gathering in NYC in October now shares the poignant understanding that it was our last time with Chrissy. We shared many deep laughs that evening. Janet Bowen Glass, herself battling breast cancer, recalls the very positive influence Chrissy had on her during our last reunion. Janet continues to be treated for the metastasis of cancer to her bones. She has decided to leave her position as CEO and administrator of a 208-bed nursing and rehabilitation facility north of Boston.
I made it through a cold January in Vermont with little snow for outdoor activities. I am proud of my 15-year-old son Nick, who is traveling in Ireland as an ambassador for his school and the town of Thetford with the New England Colonials, a nonprofit that arranges exchange basketball programs for New England students in a number of countries.
