In September Marcia Seymour Hanson and husband Paul Dean enjoyed participating in the Tour de Mont Blanc on a 110-mile trail around the highest peak in western Europe, traversing alpine France, Italy, and Switzerland. The Hansons spent Thanksgiving in California with their two sons and their families.
Stephanie Merber Lench and Alice Vassallo Scott met for a farewell lunch in NYC in October, prior to Alice’s move to Sarasota, FL. Stephanie misses her. Vivian Weisenfeld Gans and Ken joined Ed Kaplan (husband of the late Carolyn Geismar Kaplan) and Alice and her husband, Mike, for dinner and a catch-up evening before Alice’s departure. Alice and Mike continue to enjoy golf, tennis, and lots of travel. Their most recent excursions included a trip to Yellowstone and Jackson Hole with their children and grandchildren and a vacation in the Dominican Republic.
Alice Bemis Wiggin and Dick moved to an apartment at Newbury Court, an assisted-living facility in Concord, MA. Located next door to Emerson Hospital, their new home is very convenient for medical appointments. Alice also finds the community to be very caring, and the food and other amenities are wonderful, she says. Dick’s Parkinson’s disease is deteriorating rather rapidly, and it is very distressing for Alice. They are glad to not worry about shoveling snow and cutting grass.
In November Hope Thompson Kerr joined a group of travelers in Bhutan. She says the Himalayan scenery was beautiful and mystical, and Bhutan is a world of temple-fortresses and ancient customs. They flew through the Himalayas to Delhi, India, with Mt. Everest in view. The group rode rickshaws through bazaars, visited Jaipur, rode camels in Ranthambhore National Park, saw the Taj Mahal, and took a train to Varanasi and watched the Aarti cremation ceremony on the Ganges River. Hope says, “It was a trip I will never forget.”
