Last summer Brian Singer released three songs on Apple iTunes (search the site under Brian David Singer). Brian continues to play dates in Minnesota with Christian rock band PLC. He also does occasional club dates with other musicians. He had dinner with Vince Schimel in NYC last October and speaks often to Eric Schmidt. Aside from musical pursuits, Brian continues his 18-year career with Ecolab, as an assistant VP for global accounts.
Caroline Ralph Kenyon stays busy with four kids—ages 14, 12, 10, and 9—and new kitten Lily. Between sports, music, and schoolwork, she doesn’t have much time for anything else. Nonetheless, she is in the midst of a two-year term as the Manhasset Middle School community association president. She and her husband are about to start on a major house renovation, which will add “a whole new dimension” to her life. She hears from Paula Kurata Kuespert, Katie Trotta Kane, Beth Demas Andersen, and Jenny Roche Vilot frequently.
In January Steve Stollerman reported the freezing temps and all the snow falling in France, which he calls home these days. He spent the holidays in NYC with most of his family. He also enjoyed seeing Doug Werby, who was passing through the city.
Aimee Ventura O’Brien is halfway through year two of architecture school and still hanging in there. “It’s a bit worrisome that most of the other students’ mothers are younger than I am; exhilarating and challenging nonetheless!” Aimee has been reconnecting with lots of Skidmore pals through Facebook (Chip Williams, Larry Meltzer, Herb Eidt, and Cindy Johnson Rogers, to name a few). An interim ’86 get-together may be in the works, so get on Facebook to stay posted!
Having left Saratoga last summer, Mamie Matthews Oleksak has returned to her childhood home of Hawaii Kai on the island of Oahu, HI. Barack Obama had occasion to visit her neighborhood shopping center; his grandmother’s ashes were scattered not far from where Mamie lives. When Mamie and husband Mark enrolled son Cody, 5, in kindergarten at a neighborhood school, she ran into Cathy Hayes Brown. Cathy’s husband, Jeff, had been temporarily transferred to Hawaii for his job, and they live with their three girls near the Oleksaks. Mamie says, “It’s wonderful to know that reconnecting with old Skidmore classmates is easy, and that they are never really as far away as you think!”
In London, Steve Cress says, “Our European adventure is not quite complete yet.” They had a great summer in Lake Garda, Italy, taking nice side trips to a few other European cities. Steve left Morgan Stanley last August to take a position as head of international sales, distribution, and client service at Northern Trust. He looks forward to more traveling in Europe and Asia.
At the urging of my 12-year-old daughter, I have entered the world of Facebook, where, to my amazement, classmates and other Skidmore alums seem to jump out of the woodwork on a daily basis. It’s been fun to reconnect and accumulate more material for my Scope columns.
