Buffalo, NY, resident Phebe Grauer Appleton and husband Nick traveled to Australia via Rome and Singapore last year. They spent three weeks in Adelaide, Nick’s hometown, visiting his four brothers and lots of nieces and nephews before heading out to Tasmania and New Zealand for a few weeks.
Ann Talbot Brown and Bill went back to Millburn, NJ, last October to celebrate their 50th high-school reunion with Bonnie Ward Wood. They were sorry that Judy Dey couldn’t make it and, of course, missed the late Debbie Grigg Wilson.
Linda Gorham Harvey and John were on Sanibel Island during February.
Hope Thompson Kerr put 3,000 miles on her car visiting with Julie Gaines Phalen, Elise Snow Aston, Pat Naigles Lyons, and Joan Benninger Nixon in Sarasota. Hope reports that Julie had gone to Europe, where Cliff was skiing; Snowy was enjoying the winter; Pat was running a ping-pong game for senior citizens; and Joan was moving into a new house. When Hope got back home, she repacked and headed off for Machu Picchu and the Galápagos Islands. She had perfect weather and enjoyed all the turtles, birds, and wildlife.
Sally Huberlie Hale and husband Jud also got to see Julie Games Phalen and Cliff, when Jud spoke at a luncheon of the Ivy League Club in Sarasota.
Louise Libby Clearfield had her sixth solo art show in Greenville, DE, last October and maintains her studio downtown. Husband Harris is still working at Hahnemann Hospital in Philadelphia. Daughter Andrea’s new work was premiered in the Kimmer Center Orchestral Hall. A major piece written for orchestra, children’s chorus, and soprano, the composition addresses the theme of breast cancer and was commissioned to benefit the Breast Cancer Research Foundation. The Clearfields enjoy spending time with their children and granddaughter.
After a long, cold winter in Wenham, MA, Cynthia Nichols Mutterperl is thrilled by the summer’s “gentle breezes, calm water, and most of all, great sailing days.”
Marcia Seymour Hanson teaches yoga in Albany, NY, and studies at the Kripalu Center for Yoga and Health in Lenox, MA. Her goal, she says, is to “stand on my head and do the split before I am 70.” The retired librarian also volunteers as a cataloger at the Adirondack Research Library in Schenectady. An avid hiker and cross-country skier, Marcia and husband Paul visited Yosemite for a family reunion with two of their three sons, who live in the East Bay area. The group backpacked up the Mist trail and climbed Half Dome Mountain. Marcia and Paul then continued on to the Grand Canyon, where they did a six-day backpack below the rim. Their grandson is graduating from Indiana University this year.
