Ellen Judge Swanson and husband Norman exchanged their Sedona, AZ, timeshare for a week in Orlando, FL, followed by six weeks in Naples. Norman, a gold-medal swimming champion in his age group at the National Senior Olympics, planned to compete in this year’s NSO in Pittsburgh in June.
Ellen Shack Taylor of Claremont, CA, has been elected to a four-year term on Claremont’s city council. At the end of a highly contentious election, she led the field of eight candidates. She and husband Marshall are celebrating their 40th anniversary this year.
Megan Collins Adams lives in Alexandria, VA, and Brunswick, ME. Husband Michael retired last year. Son Michael is an attorney in Denver, CO, where he lives with his wife and son. Daughter Kathleen is a compensation analyst in Baltimore, MD, where she lives with her husband, who works at P&G, and their son. Kathleen’s twin, Rebecca, is a psychiatrist at New York Presbyterian Hospital in White Plains, close to where she and husband Julian live.
After earning a master’s in French from New York University, Eva Meinberg Aviad taught in Manhattan, primarily at the High School of Music and Art. Following her marriage to Israeli Consul General and then Ambassador Yakov Aviad, she lived in Los Angeles, Israel, the Philippines, Canada, and France. When Yakov retired as Ambassador to the Philippines and UNESCO in Paris, the family returned home to Israel, where Eva currently runs her own real estate business in Jerusalem. Daughter Tammy is an art historian at Christie’s in Tel Aviv and is married to an Israeli industrial designer; Gaby is pursuing a master’s in architecture at the University of Toronto and is married to a chief resident at Mt. Sinai in Toronto; Shuli is studying film, media, and acting at Tel Aviv University. All three girls served in the army.
After retiring, Judith Testa of St. Charles, IL, spent extended periods of time writing in Rome, Italy. For an Italian newspaper she authors a monthly article about an aspect of Italian art, history, or culture; she is also writing a biography of the Italian-American baseball player Sal Maglio. She stays in touch with Tina Garber Olsen.
Artist Lee Cranshaw Rowan has been accepted in a number of juried shows this year; some of her work is viewable at wasinghamgallery.com. Earlier this year her daughter opened the Jackson Street Gallery, specializing in western contemporary art, in Jackson Hole, WY.
Carole Walter Maeder of Bonita Springs, FL, had lunch with Eileen Kirwin Cameron, Judy Argento Quest, Joan Berejik, and Linda Ellenbogen in Naples, FL. Carole traveled to French Guiana, Suriname, and Guyana.
Cynthia Brainerd Troischt of Ballston Lake, NY, is a day-treatment clinical coordinator at Grout Park School in Schenectady.
Nancy Hopkins Babcock, of Cottage Grove, MN, retired from the Social Security Administration. She is looking forward to traveling, reading at their Wisconsin lake cabin, and enjoying her grandchildren. She is having knee-replacement surgery this year.
After practicing law for 36 years in Kingston, NY, Nancy Thielking Riseley officially retired in December.
Dvora Kanegis of Boulder, CO, sells her paintings online at www.tango.artist.com. An avid tango dancer, she spent two weeks practicing in Buenos Aires, Argentina. Doris and a friend have recently launched a business crafting handmade nonpierced gold and silver earrings. She also spends time with her grandchildren, ages 6 and 3.
The class expresses condolences to Judy Silver Archer, who lost her husband of 20 years, Charles, earlier this year. Judy was grateful for the comfort provided by her daughter, a Gulf War veteran. Judy enjoys visiting her nieces in North Carolina.
Sandra Koch Prior and I met at the Philadelphia Flower Show in March.
Our third grandchild was born in February in Melbourne, Australia, the first child of son Steve and daughter-in-law Tricia. I traveled to Melbourne in May to meet her.
