Ruth Sacks Caplin turned British author Elizabeth Taylor’s novel Mrs. Palfrey at the Claremont into a screenplay back in the 1970s. But because she didn’t have the rights to the book, her efforts went nowhere—until about two years ago, when Ruth’s son Lee informed her that Taylor’s estate agreed to sell the rights. Since January the movie, which stars Academy Award-nominee Dame Joan Plowright, has been making the rounds at small film festivals, receiving favorable reviews from, among others, the New York Post, NBC Reel Talk and USA Today. “It is a nice surprise, in the senior quarter of my life, to have this bloom,” says Ruth. “It’s like a big birthday party.” |
