Retired for a few years, Elaine Straka Silverman and Norm have traveled to Italy and Costa Rica. Between New York and Philadelphia they visit three grandchildren, ages 7, 13, and 17.

Class president Katherine Morse Pincus is still wintering on Florida’s Treasure Coast. She recently cruised the Indian Ocean from the Seychelles to Madagascar.

Edith Celley is happily busy with her volunteer grant-writing and management of a local preservation organization, which raised over half a million to restore three historic buildings in Connecticut. She is supervising the operation of an interpretive visitors’ center on the Connecticut River National Scenic Byway. Edith took time out to enjoy an Elderhostel in Sorrento and the Bay of Naples—“a great way to travel solo and not be alone,” she says.

Joanne Whiting Lenci spent two weeks in Florida and had lunch with Joan Taylor Brandenburg, who enjoys playing golf. In April Jo’s grandson was married in Denver, CO.
Doris Higgons Popenoe says as you near age 80, your body requires more “patching.” She spent two weeks in the hospital with pneumonia earlier this year. Soon thereafter she went on a Celebrity cruise, got a virus, and is now on a nebulizer. Husband Pete has stenosis, but manages. Dori had Thanksgiving in Texas, went to Connecticut to see Pete’s brother, and stopped in DC to visit her twin. Leah Cunningham Wood and Chuck go with her to all the Skidmore functions in Boca.

Martha Park Boswell of Francestown, NH, is married to a die-hard skier, so vacations are not in warm places. They summer in Rockport, MA, where they enjoy their grandchildren and golf. Martha traveled to Jackson Hole, WY, to visit a daughter with a ski house; she also goes to Mt. Tremblant, Canada, with 25 old skier friends every year.

Marge Fee Neff and Charlie celebrated his 60th reunion at George School last May. Both granddaughters graduated that month. Marge enjoyed time on St. Simon Island and Atlantic Beach, FL, plus three business-and-personal trips to Annapolis and Philadelphia with Charlie. Marge and daughter Debbie run a healthcare consultancy and are up to their ears in the Medicare Part D program. Marge got together with Mary Bailey Schultze and Lou in their Andersen, SC, home. She says Madeline Flood Peel’s husband is in an assisted-living home.
Kay Christie Shaw and husband John are as busy as ever, despite his health problems. They are grateful for being around to see two grandsons enter college this fall and to welcome their newest granddaughter from China this spring. Singing in the local choir and chorus bring back fond memories of being in Skidmore’s chorus.

Betsy Bell Condron and husband Joe had a summer barge trip out of Bordeaux through southwestern France’s wine country. They had lunch in Cape Cod with Mary Lou Woodruff Street, sharing great memories from diaries of our post-grad trip to Europe with other ’49ers. Betsy also lunched with Lainie Votaw Bell at the Bells’ Poconos retreat. She has plenty of chats with Candy Cain Willen and says, “Skidmore pals are the best!”
