Betsy Goldberg is painting, showing block prints, traveling to Egypt, seeing friends and the world, and enjoying life.

Stephanie Rose had a solo exhibition in May at the Modo Gallery in Hudson, NY. The show featured recent paintings, works on paper, and two major paintings from a decade earlier. Retired professor of art history James Kettlewell authored an essay citing Rose’s work as occupying “a critical place in modern/postmodern art history.”

Linda Hellmich-Brink and husband Clark Brink ’55 sold their Saratoga home last spring and moved to Sunapee, NH, where they will spend summers. At their winter home in Sarasota, FL, they are active in area cultural events. They enjoyed travels to the Virgin Islands, Alaska, and British Columbia this past winter and spring. Daughter Christina is curator of the Jolika Collection of New Guinea Art and of the Art of Oceania at the deYoung Museum in San Francisco. It isn’t just the art museum that lures Linda to San Francisco; Christina has two children. Linda agrees with other grandmothers in our class that “being a grandparent is just
the best!”

Valerie Burkhardt Marier and husband Robert spent five weeks in Australia and New Zealand, including New Year’s Eve in a hotel overlooking the Sydney Opera House. She says they did lots of off-tour driving and ventured into the bush. Summers in Maine include visits with Carol Little Weg and husband Ken, and with Ellen Pomeranz Sax Aronson, who represents fabulous table furnishings (napkins, placemats, unusual napkin rings) at parties.

Susan Viuker Landau and Tom spent last Christmas in Israel before heading off to Petra, Jordan—a “remarkable place” she highly recommends. In February Susan flew to Prague when Tom was on a five-week lecture appointment. She visited for a week, squeezing in a weekend
in Budapest.

Kayla Abelove Feldman had a “lousy winter” that included knee surgery, stitches in her finger (from a newly-sharpened knife), and the death of her mother in March after a long battle with dementia. “However,” says Kayla, “we do have some bright spots. Our grandchildren, ages 3 and 1, are thriving in California (their mom is Samantha Feldman Lagocki ’91), and daughter Abigail finished her MFA in photography.”

Last fall Bonnie Allen Shertenlieb and husband Bill visited Rome, Casablanca, Gibraltar, and Funchal, Madeira. In the spring they cruised the Caribbean on a ship which, in addition to stopping at some Mexican ports, went halfway into the Panama Canal and back out—“almost as much fun as going all the way through.” Bonnie enjoyed her 26th year with H&R Block and her “semi-retired” status as a senior tax advisor. She now works only during “tax season” and has the rest of the year free for their six grandchildren.
