In April John Howley argued a high-profile international law case in the US Supreme Court. Representing the governments of India and Mongolia, he argued that US courts do not have the jurisdiction to enforce tax liens against buildings housing diplomatic missions to the United Nations. A decision was expected by the end of June.
Steve Morrow had a reunion of major excitement with classmates on a rented sailboat off the Antilles coast last fall. Steve Schwartz, Rob Rothschild, Chris Deininger, and Dave Pierce got together for a week of island-hopping. The rental company did not tell them about the “pirate” boats working the straits and robbing visitors. They spent five days in a ship’s hold while the government secured their release. Though they were treated well, a lot of sleepless nights were spent recounting stories of Skidmore life. They decided that next year’s get-together will be somewhere much tamer.
In March Pam Swensen, chief executive officer of the Executive Women’s Golf Association, was honored with a 2007 Giraffe Award from the Women’s Chamber of Commerce of Palm Beach County. During Women’s History Month each year, the chamber recognizes three outstanding leaders who “stick their necks out, whose focus, initiative, dedication, perseverance, and risk-taking make a difference to other women in the workplace and in the community.”
