Helen Cox Colman enjoyed a visit from Janet White MacLure in November. Helen and her husband took a world cruise this spring. They invite classmates to visit them in Parriah, FL.
Pat O’Meara Jevons and Barb Tyson Hartman attended a music event at Skidmore earlier this year. They enjoyed performances by students and instructors, including works by Beethoven and a rendition of Down Among the New York Hills and our Alma Mater by talented music students. The new Zankel music building, still under construction, has great promise and is needed to accommodate the burgeoning music program.
Sally Harrison Dickinson helped husband Porter celebrate his 60th birthday with three of their four children at Hilton Head, SC. Sally, who volunteers for the Fitchburg (MA) Historical Society, had the task of raising $2.5 million for the society’s move to new headquarters. The campaign netted $3 million six months ahead of deadline.
Charlotte Eberwein Sutherland lost her husband, Les, who had been in poor health for years. She keeps busy with choirs at three churches, maintenance of two houses, and occasional baby-sitting. Charlotte says that Pittsfield, MA, has become a cultural center, and there is much to do there that is fun and interesting.
Camille Christian Malamud and husband Bill traveled to England in May to visit their oldest daughter and her family, who live near the Lake District. To celebrate Bill’s 80th birthday the couple will do a barge trip on the early industrial canals of northern England.
Anne Schaaff Wadhams and husband Charlie were in Florida visiting family, including 5-year-old great-grandson Jack, who is “amazingly cute and very smart,
of course.” Schaafie finds it very strange to have a child of hers become a grandparent! The Wadhams are busy and healthy and send their best to all.
Nancy Nacke Murphey has a new address in Monroe, WA.
Janet Ainsworth MacDonald toured England and Scotland in May with three friends, chauffeured by their own driver. Janet took a course on writing a business plan for the board of a nonprofit organization she is involved with, Olympic Theatre Arts. She says the course was boring, but it may help with fundraising and grant-writing projects.
Inge Jensen Brown has been in touch with Ethel Leete Rabin’s daughters Julia and Jelyn. Julia lives in Wendell, MA, and Jelyn is in Gainsville, GA. It has been a tough time for the family. Ethel’s son Jack Jr. died in 2007, the same year her brother Joel passed away. Inge’s grandson Max is a baseball star at Hofstra; grandson Jon is a high-school junior who’s into basketball and books.
Carl DeSantis and wife Barbara have a grandson who graduated from Middlebury College in February. Carl and Barbara visited Bob Rider and his wife at their new home in Palm City, FL.
Dorothy Danninger Ericsson and husband Ebbie spent another winter on their trawler in the Florida Keys, which they have done for 20 years. Now back home in Barnegat Light, ME, they are gardening and trying to get off their arthritic knees.
Maureen Hanway Foulke took a fabulous trip, sailing from Valparaiso around the tip of South America to the Igusio Falls, the widest in the world. Although it was rough around Cape Horn, Reni saw many glaciers and penguins. “After all of the good food, it’s back to dieting,” says Maureen.
Merrilyn Greeley VanGelder and husband Paul spent their fourth winter in Tucson, AZ, with daughter Martha ’79. While there they saw Joan Kreuser Noone and husband Roger, who were visiting their four great-grandchildren.
