Asian views
Advantageous Situation, by artists Xiaohuan Li and Liming Tang, is the first in a series of paintings addressing ancient Chinapart of the New York Conference on Asian Studies that Skidmore hosted in October. About 200 Asian-studies teachers and professors from across the state joined for Asia: Image, Imaging, and Imagination, a weekend packed with discussions and lectures plus a book display, concert, and banquet. The plenary speaker was Skidmore trustee Oscar Tang, a New York City businessman, museum benefactor, and China Institute trustee. Skidmore professor Mao Chen, who directs the colleges Asian studies program, organized the conference. SR
