Asian views

Advantageous Situation,” by artists Xiaohuan Li and Liming Tang, is the first in a series of paintings addressing ancient China—part of the New York Conference on Asian Studies that Skidmore hosted in October. About 200 Asian-studies teachers and professors from across the state joined for “Asia: Image, Imaging, and Imagination,” a weekend packed with discussions and lectures plus a book display, concert, and banquet. The plenary speaker was Skidmore trustee Oscar Tang, a New York City businessman, museum benefactor, and China Institute trustee. Skidmore professor Mao Chen, who directs the college’s Asian studies program, organized the conference. —SR
