From foreign shores we heard from Toby Rowe Howenstein who had a wonderful summer with husband George on their boat in France. Daughter Cyndi and her children joined them for two weeks; the Howensteins spent six days in Paris with their granddaughters.
In September Diane Smejkal Wallace and Jim went on a cruise from Rome through the straits of Messina and up the Adriatic coast.
Ann Talbot Brown and Bill were in Alaska for two and a half weeks last May and June. At the end of August, they left the Cape to visit son David at his place on Alaska’s Outer Banks. Also visiting Alaska at the same time were Sally Huberlie Hale and Jud.
In September Bob and I joined the Hales on a cruise from NYC to Montreal, passing Bar Harbor, Nova Scotia, Prince Edward Island, and the Saguenay and St. Lawrence Rivers. We all loved Quebec!
Jean Kreger Carlson took a break from selling real estate in Seattle, WA, to spend an exhilarating week at the Democratic convention in Boston. Although she did not get to serve as a delegate, she still “enjoyed the experience as a groupie.” Jean, a history major, was especially intrigued by Plymouth Plantation and had the added pleasure of staying with her younger son in his apartment near Fenway Park.
Linda Gorham Harvey and John held a Gorham family reunion on Cape Cod, in honor of the 100th birthday of Linda’s mother. Jane Merrill Akeson and friend Bob, who were old friends in Wellesley, joined the party. In September the Harveys’ daughter Julie was married, with 36 Gorham family members in attendance; Janie’s son-in-law provided catering for the reception.
Sue Kopf Mueller, husband Charles, and daughter Kristen escaped major damage to their homes in Naples, FL, this past summer.
Sandra Sperry was also fine in Boca Raton, but her son’s family lost their roof, swimming pool, car, boat, and several windows at their Punta Gorda home. Fortunately, they themselves were unharmed. Sandra has been working for six years as an administrative assistant for the American Friends of the Hebrew University in Jerusalem. All of her children live in Florida, so she sees them often and finds it a challenge to keep up with her four-year-old granddaughter. Sue continues a 20-year hobby of raising and breeding cats.
For our 50th reunion, Alice Bemis Wiggin has volunteered to make a special banner honoring our deceased classmates. She plans to reproduce photos of these folks onto the fabric. She asks that original photographs be sent to her at 78 Nashoba Rd, Concord, MA 01742; she will return them.
We extend our condolences to Sheila Josefsberg Kasten, whose husband, Jack, passed away on September 8, 2004. He had been sick for a long time, but was a wonderful sport and attended our last reunion. We will surely miss having him be part of our class group.
