Our 45th reunion is June 2–5! Rosemary Bourne and her committee are planning a gala event that you will not want to miss.

In Florida Mary Winters Cooper reports that the Naples area received severe wind damage with toppled trees and signs during last summer’s hurricanes, but they did not experience the losses seen just north of them in Charlotte County. In August, Mary spent ten days in White Plains, NY, with her daughter-in-law, playing grandmother to her newborn second grandson and his brother, 3. Mary’s son is a NASCAR agent and was away at the races for a week, so Mary was happy to lend a hand with the new baby. As a special thank-you, Mary was treated to an evening in NYC for dinner and a Broadway show, Sly Fox. “We loved the show,” writes Mary, “and imagine my surprise to read that one of the producers was our own Nelle Nugent.”

While volunteering for the local Junior League some years ago, Nancy Howard O’Hara and a friend opened a library in the Woodstock, NY, jail. That led to providing educational and drug rehabilitation programs to the inmates. Ultimately, Nancy was asked if she would like to be paid for her work by becoming the deputy sheriff in Woodstock, a job from which she recently retired. Three years ago Nancy remarried and now enjoys traveling. Her most recent trip was to Thailand and Cambodia.

Joyce Jacobs Grand and husband Bernie love being retired and having time to spend with their three children and five grandchildren. They also enjoy recreational sports and lots of traveling. They spent two weeks in China last summer—“an arduous trip,” Joyce writes. She found it a fascinating country, with stark contrasts between new high-rise buildings and centuries-old rice paddies. Last summer they were in Saratoga for a family wedding. “The boutiques and restaurants are a far cry from our day!” quips Joyce.

Last August Debby Davenport Brooks and husband David cut their vacation in Maine a little short to welcome a granddaughter. Eldest daughter Marcy is the proud mom. Son-in-law Gerry plans to be the stay-at-home dad while Marcy works in NYC. The couple met on the ski slopes, so Debby is convinced that baby Dennison will be skiing by age 2.

Ranch life for Ellen Welles Linn often involves feeding the cattle after a day of selling real estate. Ellen and her husband, along with a group of friends, spent 18 days rafting, camping, and hiking along the Colorado River Gorge through the Grand Canyon. Ellen enjoys visiting her daughter, who is working with warmblood horses in Switzerland.

A few years ago Priscilla Healy Schell traveled to Ecuador with her daughter, who was adopting a baby girl. Every year since, Priscilla has returned to Ecuador for humanitarian purposes. As a volunteer nurse and certified diabetic educator, she accompanied a group called Flying Doctors of America to the Amazon to treat members of the Achuar Tribe. In 2003 Priscilla lived and worked at Campo Amigo, an Ecuador camp sponsored by the nonprofit Ayuda Inc. for children with diabetes. In 2004 she returned to train counselors at the camp and continues to help procure costly insulin via the Australian-based group Insulin for Life. Priscilla’s husband was recently appointed judge of the juvenile court in their hometown in Georgia.

The beautiful Maine coast was the setting for the August wedding of Bob and Ellie Davies Bowden’s son Jonathan and wife Bianca, from St. Georges, Quebec. The ceremony and reception were held at Shore Acres, the home of Tom and Priscilla Knowlton Tavenner ’58. It was especially memorable since Bob and Ellie’s oldest son, Bobby, was married at Shore Acres ten years earlier. Ellie is still teaching English as a second language in the Boothbay, ME, school system.

Doug and I were blessed with our third grandchild in October. Daughter Nancy and her husband added to their family of two boys with a baby girl, Elsa. We are delighted to have a little granddaughter to spoil.
