Penelope Wright Reese lives in Southampton, NY, where she has been director of community programs at the Rogers Memorial Library for the past 10 years. Husband Wayne Grothe is a marine resources specialist for the Nature Conservancy; daughter Hope is a junior at Bowdoin College and spent her fall semester in Copenhagen; and son Alex is a freshman at Bates. Penelope has been out of touch with Skidmore friends and would love to hear from you at pwright2@optonline.net.

Sharon Duffy-Verhoef and husband Bryan have returned to the northern hemisphere after more than two years in New Zealand. Sharon can be contacted at sharon7duffy@aol.com.

Elizabeth Miller Grasty visited Skidmore shortly after 9/11 and was “impressed by the vitality, support, anguish, and all the ways the students and faculty had to express their emotions and political energy.” She checked out her former room in the Tower, observing that “the passage of 25+ years does tend to age things.” Liz introduced herself to the two current residents of the room, whom she filled in about campus life “way back when.” Liz keeps in touch with Christine Vitolo, her roommate for three years, and occasionally sees Leslie Buchan Brown, who lives in Lexington, VA.

Marsha Bayly Schoene is still doing special education in a Seattle, WA, elementary school. Oldest son Tyson, 27, is an assistant manager at two indoor climbing clubs and coaches a high-school team ranked second in the nation. Son Blair, 25, is newly married and continues to study geology at MIT. Peter, 20, is a junior at Bowdoin in environmental studies and spent the fall semester in Belize. Daughter Katie is a freshman at Portland State, where she received a partial soccer scholarship.

Penny Cunningham Hommeyer enjoyed seeing Beverley Armsden Daniel at Skidmore’s Commencement last May. Neither realized that Bev’s daughter Audrey ’04 and Penny’s son Adam ’04 were in the same class until last April!

Christine Vitolo’s life as breadwinner, tuition payer, and single mom will come to an end when son Christopher graduates from Boston College and joins the working public.

At home in Bethesda, MD, Diana Lawry is recovering from surgery after a recurrence of cancer. She’d love to hear from classmates.

Jane Roberts Alpert lost her mother in October. We extend our deepest sympathies to Jane and her family.

Susan Lane Herley’s oldest son, Brad, is studying abroad in Australia through the University of Puget Sound. Susan and husband Pete visited him there this fall, working in plenty of sightseeing as well as stops in Fiji and Tahiti. Younger son Jordan is a freshman at the University of Colorado-Boulder. Now a true empty-nester, Susan may spend more time playing piano and singing at elder-care centers, something she has enjoyed for the past 15 years. She says this pursuit helps her “re-experience the fun I had singing with the Sonneteers at Skidmore!”

My son Joshua was accepted into the MBA program at NYU and is looking forward to hitting the books again.

Our 35th reunion is fast approaching—have you marked your calendars for June 2–5? Have you returned your questionnaires to class historians Wendy Berman Bloom and me? Barbara Hauck suggests we call our former roommates and see about being roomies again—a great idea. The reunion committee looks forward to seeing all of you!
