In September a group of us celebrated our 70th birthdays at the Chatham Bars Inn on Cape Cod. We had three glorious days sharing Skidmore memories. Diane Smejkal Wallace and Jim, who had their 50th wedding anniversary in July, flew in from London. Sally Huberlie Hale and Jud came during a break in promoting The Old Farmers’ Almanac. Carol Elsaesser Squiers and Jim brought pictures from their wonderful summer with their daughters and grandchildren at Rehoboth Beach. Linda Gorham Harvey graciously opened her family’s home to us for lunch. Jane Merrill Akeson, who moved to the Cape in July and was busy settling in, joined us—as did Ann Talbot Brown and Bill, who live in Orleans, MA, and Sid Wright Coursen ’58, who lives across the road. On the last day Sue Kopf Mueller and Chuck arrived; we enjoyed the beautiful evening on the terrace of our lodge. The next day Bob and I went on to Martha’s Vineyard for two days. When we returned home, I was honored by the town of Glen Ridge for 14 years of service on the board of the library.

Hope Thompson Kerr couldn’t join us on the Cape, as she was busy officiating at field hockey games in New Jersey. She celebrated her birthday during the summer, when she went to Oregon to visit her twin sister, Hilary. They went hiking at Crater Lake. On her way home, she stopped at her daughter Karen’s in Jackson Hole, WY, and was surprised to run into her daughter Linda’s family at the airport. It was the girls’ way of making Hope’s birthday special. They spent a week hiking, camping, and rafting on the Snake River. Hope also got up to Vermont for a visit with Julie Gaines Phalen and Cliff.

Pat Naigles Lyons and Herb were back in their motor home this summer when they headed to their cabin in the Adirondacks for six weeks. There they got to visit with Marcia Seymour Hanson and husband Paul.

Summer found Mary Ann Fink Russell and Russ on Nantucket, near their daughter and her two children, ages 9 and 14. In Lancaster they are close to daughter Sarah and her 18-month-old son. Mary Ann is busy there, serving on three local boards. She reported that Ingrid Kolseth Zola and Paul have sold their home in Rockville Centre, NY, and are now living in Blue Point. They love living “downsized.”

In October Joan Firmery, Florence Andresen, Betty Hartz Hewitt, and Marge O’Meara Storrs were back on campus, beginning the countdown to our 50th reunion. They have some preliminary festivities already in the works. Hope you are already thinking of getting together for our big one. Let Joan know if you would like to be on the committee. Also, remember that Alice Bemis Wiggin would like group pictures for our banner.
