Class president Carrie VanKloberg participated in Skidmore’s Celebration Weekend in October. She observes, “It is always a treat to talk to parents and students—unlikely connections seem to evolve.” It turned out that the father of a sophomore she chatted with was a Hamilton grad who, Carrie remembers, visited Skidmore often in 1969. A senior parent from Class of ’74 is staying with some of Carrie’s Saratoga friends (Class of ’78), and the woman’s daughter is one of the personal trainers Carrie will be working with this semester at Skidmore, where she teaches water aerobics for the college’s faculty/staff wellness program. Carrie sees Renee Akel Rosebrook occasionally at the Saratoga Farmers’ Market. Renee is almost “back to normal,” and occasionally on the tennis court, after a leg fracture last winter.
A Wisconsin mini-reunion in the summer was attended by Susan Herr Hopwood, Susie Hirsch Schwartz, and Mugsy Rogers Hinrichs.
Last December classmates visited Charlotte Jones Fraas in Alexandria, VA. Susan Low says Judy Norman O’Connell, Roxana Currie Wales, Lora Ekmejian Coes, Mary Burge Pearcy, and she met for a weekend stay to visit with Cece. “While the impetus and timing for the visit was to see Cece and remind her of our love for her, it provided us all with a reminder of the special bond our college years forged.” Cece died in May of a brain tumor.
Suzanne Phillips sells real estate in Atlanta, GA, and recently moved just a few blocks away from her previous home. Suzanne and her partner, Ann, spent one fall weekend going to Bay Minette, AL, to check on some of Ann’s family after the hurricanes. Suzanne’s nephew, Ken Phillips III, lives in Peterborough, NH, with his wife and baby girl. If any of you checked yankeemagazine.com for the fall foliage update, it was Ken reporting.
Anita Turen Davidson and Misty Lettieri Haley attended an alumni event on Mercer Island at the home of Michele Dunkerley ’80. Skidmore professor Mary Lynn read from her book, Make No Small Plans: A History of Skidmore College. We loved seeing the photos of Bobby Kennedy visiting the school (we were there!) and other images circa ’68. Anita and husband Robert spent a lot of time traveling to visit elderly family members this past year. They also enjoyed three weeks in Italy in November. She notes, “Of course, I can’t complain; but a few thousand weekends at home sounds very good to me right about now. I missed my adored, child-substitute pets sorely.”
