Linda McGrath Ambrosino was featured in the Saratogian newspaper’s profile of area businesspeople who contribute to the community as volunteers. The owner of G. Willikers Toy Store in Saratoga Springs, The Toy Maker in Albany, and the Poof-Berry’s in Kennebunkport, ME, she is a former co-treasurer of the Saratoga Downtown Business Association and board member of the Saratoga Center for the Family. She currently volunteers for St. Clement’s Horse Show.
Grace Evans wrote to inform classmates that Betsy Smith vanGemeren’s husband, Niels, and son Willem, 11, perished in a single-engine airplane crash on August 3 near Lyme, CT. We send our sympathy to Betsy.
After completing a master’s in education and dual certification in elementary education and reading in 2001, Kathryn Gillmore Smigen became a reading specialist in Schenectady city schools, working with at-risk middle-school students. Kathryn, who formerly worked in the banking industry, finds that she uses many of the same skill sets in her new profession. She is proud that her oldest daughter is a freshman at Colgate. The youngest is a high-school sophomore pursuing theater.
Joshua Boyce spent this past fall “doing the college tour thing” with daughter Erica, a senior at Dover-Sherborn High School and a Merit Scholar semifinalist. An associate professor of medicine at Harvard Medical School and co-director of research in the division of rheumatology, immunology, and allergy at Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Boston, MA, Josh was awarded a five-year, multimillion-dollar grant from the National Institutes of Health to study the mechanisms of asthma. He continues to keep tabs on the progress of Heather DiPietrantonio ’02, who is pursuing a doctorate in biology at Harvard.
Liz King Farrell opened the Linen Shop in New Canaan, CT (www.linen-shop.com), which specializes in personalized monogramming.
