Andrew HaLevi was named Volunteer of the Year by Charleston magazine, for his work with Charleston Futures, a nonprofit organization he founded in 1999 to help low-income students plan and prepare for college. He started informally in 1997, using his own funds to purchase supplemental academic materials and cover SAT fees and costs associated with college tours. To date, 100 local high-schoolers have benefited from Charleston Futures. Andrew is particularly proud that three of his former students are now enrolled at Skidmore. An English teacher at Burke High School, he is also director of the Charleston Teacher Alliance, the largest teacher advocacy group in the city. He reports that wife Jill and children Noa, 7, and Mira, 3, are doing well.
Fred Mauser did some Skidmore-related traveling last year. He saw Rich Gruenberger and family at Disney in May. “It was great to see them—our kids play so well,” he says. In July he traveled to Minneapolis to spend time with Barry Purowitz and daughter Brook. Along for the trip was Jason Lafer ’87. “It was great to see those guys.”
James Chrystie works for Sotheby’s Real Estate in Jackson Hole, WY, and wonders who will come out to ski the powder this winter? He encourages Skidmore friends to call him up.
For Bonnie Glass Hausman and husband Michael, 2005 was “wonderfully exhausting.” On March 13 they welcomed daughter Sydney into the world. Big brothers Zachary and Justin adore their baby sister. The Hausmans bought a house in Syosset, NY, which they have completely renovated and extended. Bonnie started a home business creating original invitations and announcements.
Rafael Nasser and wife Alexandra welcomed son Maxim on July 12. The family lives in NYC.
After living in the Breckenridge/Frisco area for eight years, Gillian Knight Rathbun and her family relocated to Killington, VT, where husband David is VP of sales and marketing at Killington Resort. Gillian is happy to be back east and close to friends and family. She can be reached at gskibun@earthlink.net.
Deirdre Ritter Hill and husband Jeffrey Hill celebrated their 10th wedding anniversary this past fall with a 12-day trip to France and Italy. While they were away, Deirdre’s parents cared for daughter Avery, 7, and son Ethan, 2.
