Joyce Bartlett ’94 and husband Alan have been operating their own business, Beachcomber Charter LLC, since the summer of 2002. The longtime sailing enthusiasts live on the Mystic Jitney, a 40-foot motorsailer, during the summer in their home port of Mystic, CT, from which they run private day-sail charters on Fisher’s Island Sound. They recently purchased Island Girl, a catamaran they charter for customers during the winter in Abaco, Bahamas. Virginia Martin ’99, who earned a master’s in communication and rhetoric from RPI in 2000, went on to complete a PhD in that discipline, also from RPI, this past fall. Her dissertation was entitled You Can’t Weave Cloth with Bayonets: The Role of Singing in the 1912 Lawrence Textile Strike.
