Tickled
David Porter, president emeritus, received a heartfelt token of appreciation from the board of trustees in October. Trustee Billie Stein Tisch ’48 read the citation for the 2005 Denis B. Kemball-Cook Award, honoring Porter’s “passionate commitment to the liberal arts”—including his promotion of the Honors Forum, student-faculty collaborative research, library and science-center expansions, and the Journey Campaign that funded several endowed faculty chairs, the Tang Teaching Museum, and other initiatives. With “the compelling discourse of a gifted teacher,” Tisch said, Porter “elevated our deliberations with his intellect, energy, and great love for Skidmore.” Now a visiting professor at Williams College, Porter still occasionally participates in musical and academic events at Skidmore. —SR
