New crew. David Bakyta ’89 is Skidmore’s new golf coach. He had been head golf pro at country clubs downstate. Curt Speerschneider is coaching women’s tennis. He was an assistant at North Carolina State and then at Washington and Lee. Abby Burbank is the women’s lacrosse coach.
She coached at Plymouth State and Denver and assisted at William and Mary and Amherst.
And Nate Simms (a former pro snowboarder) is coaching men’s tennis. As women’s tennis head at Middlebury, he won coach-of-the-year awards.

Winning season

Volleyball.
A 23-13 record sent the T’breds to the NCAA Division III tournament, but they lost to SUNY-Cortland, 3-2, in the first round. Darryl Manzer ’07 made All-America for the fourth year.

Soccer. The men (including Ernie Economides ’10, above) had their most-ever wins, going 15-5-1. After beating number-one seed Hamilton to get to the Liberty League finals, they lost, 2-1, to St. Lawrence. The women, at 12-4-4, lost the Liberty semifinals, by penalty kicks, to William Smith. Three men and two women were first-team league all-stars.

Golf. Skidmore won three tournaments and took second in the Liberty League championships. Chris DeJohn ’10 was Liberty’s Rookie of the Year and Co-Player
of the Year.

Field hockey. The team made the Liberty tournament with a 12-5 record. Katie Weber ’07 went All-America and played in the Division III Senior All-Star game.

Tennis. The women went 5-4, took second in the league championships, and had a freshman named to L iberty’s first team. Two men made it to the quarterfinals of the ITA regional tournament.
