After spending the past year up in Newport, at the Naval War College, Art Richardson returned
to Washington, DC, where he is inspector general for the Navy’s military sealift command. He
and wife Renee bought an old row house in the city five years ago and, after spending most of that time in Korea and the Middle East, are now able to enjoy it. As children leave, the house seems “almost roomy,” Art observes. Son Artemas ’08 is a junior at Skidmore; Anna, 18, graduated from Madeira this past spring and is a freshman at Smith; Sam, 16, is boarding at Mercersburg.
Basking in the benefits of being an only child, Tom, 13, remains at school in Washington.
Art looks forward to catching up with classmates next spring at our 30th reunion.

A profile of school nurse Pamela Hughes Barth appeared in the October 16 “At Your Job” column
in the Asbury Park Press. One challenge of her job, she noted, is “trying to figure out which children are really sick and which ones aren’t. You need good assessment and communication skills.” Pamela says the number of “chronically ill students and those in need of more intensive nursing care is growing all the time.” Despite her “teacher’s salary,” she loves her job. “The kids
are wonderful. They’re full of energy and get excited over the littlest thing. I come back every day and I laugh, and I don’t have that kind of burnout that some of the high-powered medical administrative positions might have.”
