Ferne Hessberg Weiner’s husband, Howard, celebrated his 80th birthday in November. They are both well and expect to attend our 60th reunion next year. Last summer the Weiners took an eight-day tour of Nova Scotia, New Brunswick, and Prince Edward Island. In October they joined five other couples for a cruise to Tahiti that left from La Jolla, CA, where they reside. Ferne fills daily life with a book club, writing and movie-critic groups, wine tasting, and smelling the flowers. She would love to see any classmates in the area.
Adelaide Hodgman Marx is updating and maintaining her 1920s house, an ongoing project with no end in sight. She enjoyed a great family reunion in celebration of her 80th birthday on McMahan Island, ME, in August. She hadn’t seen some relatives in 50 years! She is still healthy and gets to the gym frequently.
JoyceWatkins Bates and Herman have moved to Hillside Retirement Community in Oregon. Their new home is just one floor. Herman had open-heart surgery in 2006, and Joyce had a pacemaker put in this past October. They still plan to travel.
Sandra Worley Brown is still bringing dogs to nursing homes and serves as chair of the Pasco Kennel Club and treasurer of her homeowners association in Bayonet Point, FL. She is losing some of her eyesight and will have to give up some of her activities.
Lois Smith Klauder sent the sad news that husband Norman died suddenly in April. We are so sorry for her loss. She recently ran into Helen Buch Thorpe, who was guiding a house tour in Ocean Grove, NJ, where they are both active in the local historical society.
This past summer I got stuck on the hill while cutting my lawn with a tractor mower and had to call a neighbor to get me down. My vegetable garden was so prolific that I didn’t do much grocery shopping. In September I traveled to Ocean City, NJ, for the reunion of USS Miami crew members, which I had always attended with my late husband, Al. I’ve signed up for the Ireland trip with Skidmore’s alumni travel program this spring.
