A few months ago, I decided to find out where Mascoutah, IL, is, so I called Bernie Postel. She was at home in the house her great-grandfather built in 1887, and we had a long chat. Mascoutah is 300 miles south of Chicago, where Bernie maintains an apartment that she may relocate to. She underwent a complicated surgery to replace damaged jaw bone with bone from her shin. Happily, she is doing well.
In Virginia, Janie Tabor Bristol enjoyed a visit from a granddaughter she hadn’t seen in a while.
I called Nancy Nickum Damtoft after hearing from Janie Morton that Nicky’s husband, Donald, had passed away. Nicky and Donald had moved from their beloved Connecticut to Exeter, NH, because the retirement complex there has health facilities. Nicky still loves swimming and playing tennis almost every day. The class is sorry to hear of her loss, and we send our thoughts and prayers.
We also extend our sympathy to Jan Bassett Gretzler in Florida, who lost her husband, Norton, this past year.
I traveled to NYC this fall with my two daughters, including Jerri Jerman Ginman ’72, to visit a grandson who is a junior at Columbia.
