Cherry Talbott, a widow for three years, moved east to Chappaqua, NY, from Idaho to be with fiancé Allan Morjikian. Allan is the widower of one of Cherry’s Walnut Hill classmates who passed away two years ago. Cherry has maintained a longtime friendship with Skidmore big sister Ellen Rubinson Zamore ’59.

Becky Martin Watson’s friend Steve, with whom she travels, has a passion for four-cylinder Plymouth cars, vintage 1928–32. They enjoy going to exhibitions of the cars in Vermont, and Becky encourages others with this hobby to join the tours.

Ellen Guthrie toured the outer islands of the British Isles this past summer with a Lindblad/National Geographic group. The tour explored the Stone Age and Bronze Age civilizations on the Shetland, Orkney, Hebrides, and Scilly Islands. Ellen is in Guatemala for a second time to build houses with Habitat for Humanity.

Colette Houle Palermo spent a fun-filled week in August in the Catskills. An avid baseball fan, she enjoyed the Hall of Fame in Cooperstown, NY, where she also attended tournament games in which her youngest grandson participated. She found some time to play golf too.

Eleanor Schmidt Schweigaard-Olsen, who bought a home in Straus Park in Brevard, NC, has delighted in the mountains there for the past three summers. She and her husband have enjoyed meeting lots of “half-backs” who have relocated from the West Coast of Florida. Brevard was cited by the Wall Street Journal as one of the best small towns in which to retire. It boasts 250 waterfalls, a top-ranked music center, and great hiking year-round. Eleanor had lunch with Janet Armstrong Lusk and her husband, James, when they visited Sarasota and says, “It was great to reminisce.”

Betty Hanley, supervisor of a home health-aid firm in Fall River, MA, has joined the “young old generation,” contrary to her brother’s birthday wish to
“an old lady!” (Family can be a wonderful thing, she adds.) In July she spent a week camping and then rented a cottage on the beach in Maine. Even though it rained, her grandchildren enjoyed every minute of the experience while the adults ate, drank, and socialized.

Mary Anita Hoff Fallon reports that all is well in Amagansett, RI. She joined Joan Simon Goldfarb, Rosemary Bourne, Sonia Sparks Wallman, and Debbie Davenport Brooks in celebrating the wedding of Elaine Perlman Cohen’s daughter Rachael in East Hampton this past summer. It was a fun wedding and a great Skidmore reunion.

Rosemary Bourne attended a Skidmore luncheon at the Devon Yacht Club in Amagansett, NY.

Sandra Blair Ohanian and husband Jack embarked on a family-adventure trip to the Galápagos Islands with their grandsons, ages 8 and 11.The trip was a great time for all. Sandra and Jack also enjoyed a trip to Antarctica last year.

Margot Gilbert Gilison moved to Laguna Woods, CA, to be nearer her sons who live in the Los Angeles area. She welcomes e-mail at mggilison@gmail.com.

Peggy Hiller Harris and Barbara Block Zwick spent a wonderful weekend in Cleveland, OH, celebrating their 70th birthdays with friends from Memphis, with whom they had grown up.

Georgia Anderson Pendleton’s oldest daughter, Cindy Pendleton ’85, serves as her class secretary. Cindy lives in Spencer, MA, with husband Bill Cronin and their son, age 6, and daughter, 3. Georgia’s other children include Julie, who graduated from Dennison in 1986, lives and works in Waltham, MA, and is single; John, an ’89 Trinity alum who practices law and lives in Portsmouth, NH, with his wife and two kids; and Brigham, a ’92 Union grad and Web-site designer who is married and lives in Portsmouth.

Julia Smith Pringle became the proud owner of a new left hip in January 2008. Golfing and walking are now fun and pain-free. A member of Weight Watchers, Julia has lost more than 50 pounds after learning that each pound of extra weight puts three pounds of pressure on the hips. Julie and husband Walter returned to Arizona’s Valley of the Sun, where they are reveling in the warm weather and golf.

After discovering an interest in drawing and painting four years ago, Pat Timothy is doing watercolor portraiture. She says her right-brain initiatives began with performing and studying music. Tim (pattimothy3963@hotmail.com) has also engaged in a process that she calls My Quest Toward Contentment, slanted toward greater awareness of her personal feelings. She is delighted with Skidmore’s success and agrees that “creative thought matters.” She moved four floors higher in her Boston high-rise, which has spectacular views. She continues workouts at the gym and was looking forward to another season at the Boston Symphony Orchestra and events at the Museum of Fine Arts.
