In August a group of classmates gathered in Saratoga Springs for a weekend mini-reunion; a fabulous time was had by all. On hand for the fun were Kate Fitzpatrick Barnico and husband Tom; Kevin Caparosa with children Kayce and Blake; Wendy Collins Gutfarb and her guest Beverly Lewis, owner of past Kentucky Derby winners Silver Charm and Charismatic; Peggy Bresnick Kendler, husband Doug, and children Jesse and Lizzi; Michelle Smith Meth and husband Bruce; Barbara Sabia, husband Andrea Angera, and children Brent, Sofia, and Connor. Rob Rothschild and wife Nina joined us for lunch and the races, where Connor did a stellar job of picking winners.
Caroline Frankil Warren was appointed executive director of the Center Dance Company, one of the largest and best preprofessional ballet training studios in the metro Washington, DC, area. After having taken a few detours to other sorts of nonprofits and for-profits, she is excited to be heading back to the arts and her first love, dance. Last year she and husband Rich celebrated the b’nai mitzvah of their twins Alex and Rachel, 14. It’s a wonderful rite of passage for the whole family, mostly for Caroline, who wonders “how can I possibly have teenage children when it seems like just last year I was dancing until all hours at Howard J’s?” She has recently reconnected with Brenda D’aiuta, who is pursuing a career in textile design in NYC.
Caroline also reports that, after a long and successful dance career, Penny Hatch ’81 is getting a doctorate in speech pathology from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Also, Nina Dunbar and her two children live in Santa Barbara, CA, where she is executive director of the Arts Fund. You can contact Caroline through LinkedIn.com. She loves reconnecting with old friends.
Missy Godfrey was sorry to have missed the August mini-reunion. However, another mini to celebrate our collective 50th birthdays was held in NYC. The gathering drew Meredith Wagner, Betsy Nelson Welke, Marcie Seigal Sheely, who came up from North Carolina, Bostonian Debbie Genco Powell, Lynn Geist Taylor, who came from Chicago, and Sheila Lodge Oliver ’79, who made a surprise visit from Louisville, KY.
Francine Safir married David DiBello on August 10 after dating him for six years. Fellow Skiddies Chris Scherm ’79 and Betty Nadby ’81 were there to celebrate. Of course, the wedding wasn’t complete until they led the other 50-somethings and their kids in the Time Warp! Daughter Sasha is a freshman at the School of Visual Arts in Manhattan. Just like her mom, she loves NYC. The newlyweds, however, are putting down roots in Chester County, PA, where they are building a house on their 1.7-acre lot.
