While watching daughter Ashley play in a lacrosse tournament in Annapolis, MD, Cindy Johnson Rogers spotted Roland Mackenzie ’85. They had a great time catching up. Also, Liz Cole Bemiss, Chip Williams, and Craig Poler ’84 had a great time gathering in Marblehead, MA, at Cindy’s mother’s house.
Beth Demas-Anderson made a trip toSaratoga Springs last summer with Kathryn, 17, who took two college courses during Skidmore’s summer session. She loved the campus and will be applying this year. It was strange for Beth to walk around campus as a prospective Skidmore parent instead of being a carefree student or visiting, partying alum! While Beth was in Saratoga, she had a nice visit with Eve Mulholland Antonez and son Jake. Beth, husband Darrick, and their youngest, 7-year-old Victoria, saw Ellen Hermann a few times last summer. They were treated to a fantastic four-day sailing adventure around Long Island Sound over Labor Day weekend by Ellen and her boyfriend, Steve. Beth and Darrick welcome friends to give them a Both Kathryn and her brother Christopher, 16, are nationally ranked snowboarders and instructors at Bromley.
Mamie Matthews Oleksak, husband Mark, and son Cody, 5, relocated from Saratoga Springs, NY, to Honolulu, HI. Mamie and Mark spent the summer getting the house ready to sell and visited with family and friends on the East Coast before heading to Hawaii. Sue Wolff Anderson made the trek up to Saratoga to have lunch with Mamie at the Old Bryan Inn. The Olesaks also spent time with Julie Kaplan and her family, including sons James and Alex, who live in Collegeville, PA. Mamie, who earned an MBA in finance last year, is looking for employment and networking suggestions.
Terence Robinson sends greetings from Katy, TX, where he moved from Teaneck, NJ, in 2007. The weather is hazy, hot, and humid almost all the time, and last year’s hurricanes put a damper on things for a few days. Terry and his son evacuated at one point and were relieved to find that their home suffered no real damage upon their return. Terence was able to work from home for almost two weeks. He encourages anyone who travels to the Houston area to look him up.
Andreas Schneider laments that his promise to himself to take time off got pushed off again this year. He marvels at his German counterparts, who complain frequently about stress and enjoy six weeks of vacation. In May, Andreas was in Europe on business and visited historic Tubingen, Germany, where he spent his junior year abroad. “It was great to be back and walk the streets,” he says. Andreas’s wife and children spent part of the summer in Europe with grandparents. Andreas has been in touch with Birge Kinne ’84 and Eleni Tsitos.
Donna Vazquez and husband Edgar are considering a move from NYC to Baltimore, MD, or the Washington, DC, area. Donna works in financial services, managing a client service team. Edgar is a graphic designer specializing in retouching images. Donna met up with Christine Herter Warren and Karen Kells Corby in NYC to view the Turner exhibit at the Met this past fall. They also reminisced and read old letters they had written to each other in college. Donna and Edgar also visited Amy Sullivan ’87 and her family, including her three “beautiful, smart, and well-behaved children,” Devin, Talie, and Liam.
Samantha Cramer Kincade lives in Vancouver with husband Martin and son Jack, 2. They recently renovated an old house and are enjoying the pace of parenthood.
Kari Greenfield Scaglione is a busy stay-at-home mother of three in Basking Ridge, NJ. Son Andrew, 14, is a high-school cross-country runner hoping to make the tennis team this spring. Fifth-grader Julia, Kari’s “drama queen,” loves swimming and dance, as does her sister, Lucie, 8. Kari plays tennis and volunteers at the elementary school, where she is involved in the PTO. She has also been in charge of the food drive at her synagogue for six years. Kari stays in touch with Michele Helfgot and Denise Solomon Kligman. She still corresponds with her French sister from her junior year in Paris.
Jeanne Dutton’s debut novel, Freaked, was released by Harper Collins last year. Editors describe the work—the story of a young man’s journey from a private academy for boys to freedom and self-discovery via drugs, a handgun, and the Grateful Dead—as a “transcendent coming of age story about the most unforgettable teen since Holden Caulfield.”
In June I took my children to Manhattan Beach, CA, where we lived for two years in the mid-’90s. It’s now home to Christina Schlank, husband Steve Gaffney, and their two adorable sons Myles and Chase. We caught up one afternoon at a park, watching our kids run up and down a giant sand dune. In July we enjoyed our annual visit to Rehobeth Beach, DE, to spend three days with Jane Zoidis Quinn and her family, who arrived from Tokyo. We all love this summer tradition, at which Jane and I celebrate our birthdays (no comment). In August my family and
I spent several weeks in the Adirondacks and some time in Saratoga Springs, including our 10th annual visit to the track with the kids. I also attended the Jonas Brothers concert at SPAC with my girls and close to a thousand other adoring, screaming fans; although my ears were ringing, I thoroughly enjoyed the experience.
