Our 35th reunion is happening June 3–6! I’ve heard from a large number of classmates who are definitely planning to attend. Andy Burling, Libby Relihan Porter, Susie Thompson McNamee, and others are hard at work putting together a plan for a rockin’ time that weekend. Let’s all attend, to catch up with each other, make new friends, and have a party! Be there or be square.
Margarita Boyatzi Dempsey was fortunate enough to spend the summer at her home on Block Island, RI. Now she’s back to teaching French and serving as department chair at Smithfield High School and teaching part-time at Bryant University. Her eldest daughter, Lexi, graduated from University of Rhode Island with an engineering and French double major; she works for General Dynamics. Younger daughter Elena is a sophomore at URI, double-majoring in business and Chinese, with a minor in leadership. Frank and Margarita feel lucky to have such great daughters, and Margarita is so looking forward to our reunion.
Pat Robinson’s youngest son, Ben, is emulating dad Henry Finch by studying architecture at Carnegie Mellon, where he is a freshman. He’s also running cross-country there. Eldest son Kelton also goes to Carnegie Mellon but is taking a year off. (This means Henry and P.R. aren’t quite empty-nesters yet!) P.R. is a graphic designer, and Henry is a busy architect.
Perry Allison is excited to have a new job as managing director of Northern Stage, a professional theater company in White River Junction, VT. She and husband Michael Schunk moved from Boston to the Upper Valley. Both are delighted that Perry can combine her business experience with her lifelong passion for the theater. Michael is moving his architectural practice toward focus on green and sustainable building.
Vicki Baron Lauterbach, Deedee Dewis Thompson, and Susie Thompson McNamee, off-campus housemates senior year, got together in July in Westchester County, NY, to celebrate Deedee’s birthday. Vicki traveled from Chadd’s Ford, PA. Susie reports they upheld the Skidmore traditions of fun, love, and partying.
Kate Greenspan submitted her first news item in more than 34 years! She has been teaching medieval literature in Skidmore’s English department since 1988. She brings her German shepherds to class, which makes Chaucer & Co. a lot more palatable to students. Kate would like to establish either a medieval studies prize or a scholarship in professor Phil West’s memory. Anyone interested in helping out can contact her at kgreensp@skidmore.edu.
Meg Hammett Pierce is leading exhibit tours at Boston’s Museum of Fine Arts and helping kids and adults better understand and appreciate the wonderful world of art. I ran into her there in May, and am sadly delinquent in following up with her to get together. A broken foot at the start of June is the only lame excuse I have to offer!
After leaving the world of advertising, Melody Morgan-Srygley earned two master’s degrees; she loves teaching in Glens Falls, NY. She lives with her husband on a mountaintop in the nearby town of Cambridge.
Cate Beckstein is now a licensed X-ray technician and is working toward a degree in ultrasound. Daughter Carolyn graduated from University of Southern Maine with a degree in biochemistry, and son Greg is a senior at UVA, in foreign business and economics. Cate plans to attend Reunion.
Eileen Bryant and Melinda Stein Fager were delighted to get reacquainted in a totally unexpected place—the Middlebury College rugby field! Eileen’s son Luke and Melinda’s son Nick are both members of Middlebury’s rugby team. One of the games took place at UVM, where classmate Jill Braverman-Panza was visiting son Alex.
Alice Comins Brennan is looking forward to returning for our 35th reunion. Alice has been married 26 years. Her older son expects to graduate from Cornell University in May; her younger son is studying in Shanghai and expects to graduate from Washington University in St. Louis in 2011. Alice continues to work at Verizon Wireless, where she is associate general counsel.
