Nat Smitobol was one of six high school guidance counselors from around the country who made a 12-day, 400-mile bicycle tour this past summer to visit more than a dozen colleges in the Northeast. Nat is a counselor at St. Luke’s School in New Canaan, CT. He was cited in a July 15 New York Times story about the tour. Not only did Nat participate in the entire ride, he had a sponsor: Marcie Nover Serotta ’74, of Serotta Bicycles, helped outfit him and provide a high-end bike. Nat and his colleagues said the tour gave them first-hand insights about colleges that they can now share with their students.

Dan Fariello and wife Julie welcomed Nicholas into the world in July. Dan and Julie live in Saratoga Springs, NY, where they are both employed in commercial banking.

Stephanie Ehrman-Beitel and husband Mark announce the birth of daughter Chloe in January 2009. Their dogs Reine and Roi love Chloe and are thrilled to have her as part of the family!

Ali Smith and Noah Thomas ’99 welcomed their first child, Laurel, on July 21. Both parents are artists living in Long Beach, CA. Ali had a solo show of her paintings at Freight and Volume Gallery in Chelsea this past spring. For more info, visit alismith.org and noahthomas.org.

Allison Mattera Charles and husband Edgar announce the birth of daughter Evelyn on December 30, 2008.

Rena Strober took a two-week hiatus from the national tour of Fiddler on the Roof Starring Topol to perform her one-woman show Spaghetti & Matzo Balls at a theater festival in Leeds, England, and later in Los Angeles. Jamie Levine-Shamosh just settled into a house in Upper Saddle River, NJ, with husband Brett and 10-month-old son Ben. She is loving life in the suburbs with her family.

Gina Balsamo Wyman and husband Joe welcomed son Elliott in March. He joins sister Julia, 3. The family lives in western Massachusetts, and Gina works part-time supervising student teachers at Smith College.

Will Pfluger joined the faculty of the Cape Cod Conservatory in Massachusetts, where he teaches both classical and finger-style guitar. Will is also a registered Suzuki guitar teacher. The conservatory, with campuses in West Barnstable and Falmouth, offers courses and private lessons in music, dance, and the visual arts.

Becca Rozell married Brady Murray on June 13 in her hometown of Juneau, AK. Among the guests were Gwen Marsh Zale, Meghan Smith McPhail, Kristyn Glass Smallcombe, Graeme Campbell, and Sarah Tucker. The newlyweds live in San Francisco, CA, where Brad works for National Semiconductor and Becca teaches dance classes.

Alex Flood Alcoff and husband Sam welcomed daughter Emma on June 25.

Lori Cantor Capone and husband Josh welcomed their second child, Max, on July 5. Lori reports that life is good but very hectic!

Kavitha Unni Finnity and husband Shawn welcomed son Nithin on April 15; he joins brother Asher, 3.

Meg Breuer has been living in the Netherlands for the past six years. She received a PhD in psychopharmacology from the Universiteit Utrecht last February, and is now a scientist for Danone Research in Wageninge. She’s currently studying the effects of early nutrition on brain development and the development of obesity in later life.
