WELCOME!
Dear
New Student::
Dear New Student: All of us
in the Office of the Dean of Studies and the Office
of the Registrar would like to welcome you to
Skidmore College. We look forward to meeting you
during Orientation, which begins September 2.
Until then, we hope the information in this Guide
will introduce you to some of the academic opportunities
available at Skidmore and assist you in planning
your Fall course registration. A sample of the
Fall 2001 registration form is enclosed on page
33. The information in this Guide should help
you complete it. Note that you should return
the form by JULY 2. Registration requests are
filled in the order in which they are received.
If you have questions during the summer, please
call us at the numbers indicated below during
the hours of 8:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. We will be
here through the summer to help you plan your
fall courses and to talk about any academic questions
or concerns you may have:

The New Student Guide to Program
Planning offers only a glimpse of the academic
requirements and options at Skidmore. You should
be aware that the Skidmore College Catalogue,
the Academic Information Guide (AIG),
and the Student Handbook (both of which you will
receive at Orientation) contain more complete
information. It is your responsibility as a new
member of the Skidmore community to become familiar
with the requirements and policies that govern
academic and co-curricular life at the College.
Keep in mind that it is the philosophy of Skidmore
College to treat you as a responsible adult. Although
advice and help are here for the asking, you will
be expected to make your own decisions and to
be responsible for your own actions. We hope you
will find that these expectations lead you to
a greater understanding of your own talents and
abilities, and will also help prepare you to enter
the world at large with confidence.
You will find many people
at Skidmore who are ready to help you during your
time here. Your faculty advisor, whom you will
meet during Orientation, can be especially important
to you, and you will meet many others during your
first several weeks at Skidmore who can provide
you with information, help, and support. The staff
of the Office of the Dean of Studies and the Office
of the Registrar will always be available to you
by phone or appointment, and you are welcome to
stop by at any time; if we are able to meet with
you when you stop in, we will certainly do so.
Lists of the services we provide are included
in this Guide. During your years at Skidmore,
we hope we can be of help to you.
