PEAS – Agricultural Sustainability

Growing, cooking, and eating food brings us together and brings the much-needed attention to where our food comes from. In the Pre-orientation Experience for Agricultural Sustainability (PEAS), students will explore initiatives at Skidmore and the surrounding community in agricultural and food systems sustainability. The program is led by the Skidmore Student Garden summer manager as well as two upper-class students.

Our days will be filled with planting and harvesting in the Skidmore Student Garden, visiting and helping out at farms in the Saratoga area, and preparing a delicious dinner from some of the food that we grow ourselves. Students will also meet the Dining Hall staff, learn about where our food comes from, and discover ways to increase local, fair, ecologically sound and humane food sources on campus. We’ll also go on hikes in the Northwoods, have a campfire, play games, and explore Skidmore and Saratoga’s agricultural community together.
