2 Athletes Repeat, and 2 Others Earn First-Time Liberty League Notice

Two Skidmore athletes repeated this week for Liberty League honors and were joined by two additional athletes earning notice for the first time this spring.

Lacrosse player Sarah Berheide (Saratoga Springs, N.Y./Saratoga Springs) was again named Co-Defensive Performer of the Week, and softball player Sarah Stehouwer "last week's Pitcher of the Week" is Performer of the Week. Baseball player Mike Salamone (Albany, N.Y./Newton South, Mass.) is Co-Performer of the Week and women's lacrosse midfielder Annie Ledyard (West Grove, Pa./Lawrenceville) was named Liberty League Co-Offensive Performer of the Week, all for the week of April 3-9.

In a 3-0 week, Berheide had a 7.33 goals against average and .585 save percentage. She had five saves and three ground balls in a 9-5 win at William Smith, marking Skidmore's first-ever women's lacrosse win in Geneva. She also had 13 saves in a 13-7 win in the rain at Rochester. Overall, Berheide has a 5.31 goals against average and a .606 save percentage.

Ledyard led the Thoroughbreds to a 3-0 week, including Liberty wins over Rochester and William Smith. She dominated the midfield, scoring five goals and four assists, while grabbing 10 ground balls in the three games. The three-time NCAA draw control champion had 26 draw controls in the three games to go along with eight caused turnovers. Ledyard has 17 goals and 10 assists for 27 points.

Skidmore, ranked 17th nationally, overcame an early three-goal deficit to beat 19th-ranked Union College 13-6 at home April 11.

In three games, Salamone hit .615 (8-13) with four runs, seven RBIs, two home runs, and a 1.08 slugging percentage. He hit a two-run home run in the bottom of the ninth to force extra innings, and had a sacrifice fly in the 13th to win a 6-5 game over Plattsburgh. He was 2-4 with a two-run homer and four RBIs in a 14-4 win over Lyndon State. Salamone leads the team in hitting (.448), home runs (3), and RBIs (20).

Skidmore scored a season-high 36 runs April 11 to defeat College of St. Joseph 36-2.

In a 3-1 week, Stehouwer hit .647 (11-17) with seven runs, 10 RBIs, and three doubles. She was 8-10 with eight RBIs in a doubleheader sweep of Fisher College. Stehouwer leads the team in hitting (.448), doubles (4), and RBIs (15). She is also 6-8 with an earned run average of 4.44 and a team-high 45 strikeouts.

Skidmore is at Green Mountain College Wednesday, April 12, for a 3:30 p.m. doubleheader.
