Job Search Guide by Alison Doyle Published

December 7, 2006

Alison Doyle, associate director for information technology and employer relations at Skidmore, has written the About.com Guide to Job Searching (Adams Media, Publications, 2006).

The book includes chapters on choosing a career; managing the job search; resumes and cover letters; applications; finding listings; using search engines and Web sites; networking; interviews; and tips and strategies. Each chapter includes sidebars called "Ask Your Guide" (Doyle's answers to common questions), "Tools You Need" (information on job search tools and resources), "Elsewhere on the Web," "What's Hot" (job search trends and tips), and links to relevant sections of the About.com Web site. Finally, the About.com Guide to Job Searching includes appendices with definitions, Web sites, and suggested reading.

Doyle also has a related forum on the About.com site with job-search and career information and a discussion board.

"This book has provided me with the opportunity to share my years of experience in both internet technology and job searching to help those looking for a new job or a career change achieve their goals," Doyle says. "I have aimed to produce a user-friendly guide that combines practical advice with the latest online resources to help job seekers negotiate those transitions."
