Two Thoroughbred athletes earn recognition

Two Skidmore athletes earned recognition this week for outstanding play.

Senior hockey forward Rob Hutchison was selected the Turfer Athletic ECAC East Hockey Fan Choice Player of the Week and freshman basketball forward Jon Douglas was the Liberty League Rookie of the Week.

The hockey award was for play from Dec. 24 to Jan. 2, while the basketball honor was for play from Dec. 11 to Jan. 2.

Hutchison helped the Thoroughbreds win the Codfish Bowl (Dec. 28-29) with two goals and two assists in a 10-2 win over Framingham, and two assists in a 5-0 win in the championship game against U. Mass. Boston. He leads the 6-1-2 Thoroughbreds in scoring with seven goals and nine assists.

Douglas scored 28 points on 11-16 shooting (.689) in an 86-64 win over Lyndon State on Dec. 13. He completed the double/double with 14 rebounds. He also had eight points in a loss to Division I Northern Florida Dec. 28 and garnered eight rebounds, two steals, and two assists before fouling out in a loss to Division I Stetson Dec. 30. Douglas has started all eight games for the 1-7 Thoroughbreds, averaging 10.5 points and 6.8 rebounds per game.
