Thoroughbred athletes claim Liberty League honors
The following six Skidmore varsity athletes have earned Liberty League honors for the week ending April 1: baseball freshman Spencer Marcus (Scarsdale, N.Y.); men's lacrosse players Nick Coppola (Basking Ridge, N.J.), Kevin Robar (East Longmeadow, Mass.), and Rob Lutin (Port Washington, N.Y.); and softball players Sasha Diamond-Lenow (Wayland, Mass.) and Lauren Dinsdale (Harrington Park, N.J.).
Marcus, the Liberty League Rookie of the Week, improved to 3-1 on the mound with a complete game 6-1 win over Vassar. He allowed just one run on four hits, one walk, and six strikeouts. At the plate, he went 4-12 (.333) with two runs and two stolen bases. The Thoroughbreds are 9-9 overall and in first place in the Liberty League with a 5-1 record. Skidmore hosts St. Michael's at 1 p.m. Saturday, April 7.
Coppola, the Liberty League Offensive Performer of the Week, scored three goals and had eight assists in a 2-0 week for the Thoroughbreds. Two goals and five assists came in a 12-6 Liberty League win at Hamilton. He also had a goal and three assists in a 7-5 victory over Amherst. Robar, the Liberty League Defensive Performer of the Week, led a Thoroughbred defense that allowed just 11 goals in two games (5.50). He averaged 5.5 ground balls per game and had a goal and six ground balls in the Hamilton contest. Lutin, Liberty League Rookie of the Week, scored six goals, including a season-high four goals at Hamilton and two goals against Amherst. Skidmore is 2-5 overall and 1-0 in Liberty League play. The Thoroughbreds are at Vassar Saturday, April 7.
Dimond-Lenow, the Liberty League Performer of the Week, went 9-13 (.692) with five doubles and three RBI in a 4-0 week. She also had a 1.07 slugging percentage. Dinsdale, the Liberty League Rookie of the Week, went 3-0 on the mound, allowing only 4 earned runs in 15.2 innings (1.84 era) with seven strikeouts. She pitched a seven inning 4-0 shutout over Lyndon State. At the plate she went 6-12 (.500) with four runs, four RBI, a double, and two stolen bases. Skidmore is 5-11 and next plays at home starting at 3:30 p.m. Wednesday, April 11, against Green Mountain.
