Noted health, nutrition expert to speak on the "Soul of Nutrition"

Health and nutrition consultant Marc David will discuss "The Soul of Nutrition: Metabolic Transformation from Deep Within" in a talk scheduled at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, April 17, at Skidmore College. Free and open to the public, the will take place in Gannett Auditorium of Palamountain Hall.

The Skidmore Nutrition Action Council, a student group dedicated to increasing awareness about nutritional issues, coordinates the event.

David will discuss his "truly nourishing" approach to nutritional health, including the mind-body dimensions of food and metabolism, what we eat, and who we are as eaters. He will explain how nutritional transformation is rooted in an individual's inner world and discuss how to cultivate a healthy relationship with food and the self. Audience members will learn tools and techniques to elevate nutritional metabolism.

A nationally recognized speaker and author, David has written two books: The Slow Down Diet: Eating for Pleasure, Energy, and Weight Loss; and Nourishing Wisdom: A Mind-Body Approach to Nutrition and Well-Being.

He earned an M.A. at Sonoma State University, specializing in the psychology of eating, and trained at the Harvard Mind Body Medical Institute and SUNY Upstate Medical School. He was a longtime nutritionist and presenter with Canyon Ranch Resorts and the Kripalu Center for Yoga and Health. David has presented in numerous professional settings including Harvard, the National Institute for the Clinical Application of Behavioral Medicine, and the Institute for Integrative Nutrition, and has been featured on CNN and NBC.

He serves on the editorial staff of Alternative Therapies in Health and Medicine, a peer-reviewed journal for complimentary and alternative medicine. Articles, interviews and special mention of his work have appeared in a number of publications, including The New York Times, Chicago Sun Times, New York Daily News, Glamour, Eating Well, Utne Reader, The Sun, Yoga Journal, Bon Appetit, and Grace Woman.

David was a senior consultant to the Johnson & Johnson Corp. in natural health ventures and consulted to the Disney Co. on health-related program and product development.
