Schick Art Gallery hosts alumni art exhibition this summer

The Schick Art Gallery and the Department of Art welcome seven Skidmore art alumni for Then & Now, a summer art exhibition. Scheduled Thursday, April 26, through Sunday, June 24, the exhibition will include an opening reception from 6:30 to 7:30 pm April 26 in the gallery.

Exhibiting artists are Glenda Arentzen '62, Elena Borstein '68, Joan Wadleigh Curran '72, Josh Dorman '88, Sandra Dovberg '69, Beverley Mastrianni '76, and Abigail Murray '96. Recent works will be on display along with one piece from each artist's college days. A variety of media will be included in this exhibit: large and small-scale metal sculpture; jewelry; ceramics; acrylic, oil and mixed media paintings and drawings. These artists have received numerous awards, been widely exhibited in prestigious galleries and reviewed; several are included in major national and international museum collections including the Museum of Modern Art in New York City.

A panel discussion with the alumni will take place at 10:30 a.m. Friday, April 27, in the Surrey Williamson Inn, during which the artists will talk about their career development in the field of fine art. This event is made possible through support of the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation and Skidmore’s Office of Career Services. The exhibit, reception, and discussion are free and open to the public.

Gallery hours through May 20 are 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. during the week and from 1 to 4:30 p.m. on weekends. Summer hours beginning May 21 are 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. during the week and 1 to 4 p.m. Saturdays. The gallery will be closed for Memorial Day, May 28, and on Sundays during the summer. Admission is free.
