Thoroughbreds travel in search of NCAA titles

Skidmore's baseball and golf teams are on the road this week competing in NCAA Division III tournaments. Details follow:

The golf team is playing in its 21st straight NCAA Division III tournament Tuesday through Friday, May 15-18, at the Hawthorns Golf and Country Club and Prairie View Golf Club in Fishers and Carmel, Ind.

The Skidmore College golf team shot a second-round 319 for a two-day total of 635, and made the cut Wednesday after two rounds of the NCAA Division III Championship Tournament.

The Thoroughbreds are 17th in the 35-team, 72-hole tournament being played at the Prairie View and Hawthornes golf courses.  The top 23 teams and five individuals made the cut.

St. John's University (MN) is first 300-300--600.  Ohio Wesleyan is second (302-309--611) and Rhodes, third (299-316--615).

Skidmore freshman Chris DeJohn tied for 11th at 72-79--151. He had an eagle on the par-four eighth hole.

Nick Caldwell is tied for 75th with 80-80--160, one stroke ahead of teammate Sam Dasilva, who is tied for 86th with 81-80--161.  Stuart Drahota is tied for 103rd at 83-80—163, and Toby Spector is tied for 130th with 86-81--167.  There are 179 golfers competing.

The baseball team's game agains  St. John Fisher College in the first round of the NCAA Division III Northeast Regional Championship Tournamentwas delayed by rain with a start time moved up to 4 p.m. Wednesday, May 16, at Falcon Park in Auburn, N.Y.  

The Thoroughbreds are seeded sixth in the seven-team, double-elimination regional that continues through Saturday, May 19. The regional winner goes on to the Division III World Series, scheduled May 23-27 in Appleton, Wisc.
